    I whole heartedly agree Keith. I got my CCNA and my ISP not only uses Cisco but also Alcatel and Fortigate for the data center. So now I'm learning Nokia and going for the NRS1 certification. Had to put off renewing my JNCIA as we don't do Juniper at my level.

    Hi Keith, Thanks for the great videos that you post! I have a question regarding VPNs. How do we configure the VPN if we have dynamic public IPs on one side or both sides ?

  • @KeithBarker

    @KeithBarker

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for the question Kavin Patel! One option is to use a single static address as a hub (at one location) and then the others without static addresses "register" with the hub device. Dynamic tunnels can be set up using the addresses they are currently using. DMVPN is one example of a technology that can do this , with spokes (remote sites) that have dynamically assigned addresses. Hope that helps, and thanks for the question.

    AWESOME explanation! You have a way of explaining concepts that make it easy for me to grasp. Wish you were on Udemy. I like knowing that when I take a class I can go back and review it at any time. Unfortunately CBT is a monthly thing so once I can't pay I lose the class. Any plans on doing something on Udemy or another platform similar to Udemy?

    Since we use https, we don't have to worry about encrypting the traffic. Or am I missing something here ?

    So when we use vpn software from providers on our clients (e.g Nord) These work in transport mode, where the IP address of the VPN range isn't encrypted? Just site to site in Full Tunnel mode ? Sorry if i'm going a little off track here

  • @KeithBarker

    @KeithBarker

    4 жыл бұрын

    With any VPN, a layer 3 IP address must be exposed so that packets may be correctly routed to the other end of the VPN tunnel. Inside the payload, the actual endpoint IP addresses would be encrypted and unknown, without the proper keys to decrypt them.

    Late to the party as always Security is my weak point (ACLs make me angry, and now I am struggling with DMVPN for my CCNP), so this is very profitable for me :) My vote is C (Labs) BTW Have you ever thought to do some hipster videos with old-school (let's not be mean and say "obsolete") technologies just for laughs? E.g. IPX/SPX networks (is even possible to connect this to the Internet nowadays via some tunnels/translation?), or IS-IS routing?
