Virtua Fighter 1 tech demos/tests and prototype
Ойындар
This is a chronological set of tech demos/tests done leading up to the first Virtua Fighter game. Virtua Fighter required a good amount of R&D because no one had made a 3D polygonal fighter before. This was done on the Model 1 arcade system developed by Sega with Fujitsu before Lockheed Martin would develop the successors. The last part consists of polygon count tests, to see how much character detail they could get away with.

we did! hahah
LOL I love old school 3D graphics.
When I see this, feels like the 90s! 100%
It shows different steps in chronological order. The later the segment, the later the version.

Thanks for explaination!
Sega Started the fire
i think this was a newer, post-Siba version. since siba is removed and some of the characters are already renamed. Jeffry, for one, is named Willy in the Siba build but is named Jeffer here.

+Yukiteru Fujisaki Part of the video is a newer version as you say, and part of it is before Siba. It's made up of several parts in chronological order.

great 100 my sentiments exactly
I've always wondered the same thing as TheWatcharoll. The screens with Siba that we have seem so much later in development than this footage. Maybe Akira was created, scrapped, and brought back. If these were used for detail testing after Siba was scrapped, why do the screens with Siba already look exactly like the final game? Something definitely isn't right. Maybe these were tests for a port? Anyways, thanks for posting this. :) These are from the VF passport discs from Shenmue II, right?
Such a great sega
Jeffer is my favorite fight
Why is Akira there? Isn't this the prototype? Shouldn't Siba be there instead of Akira
Actually, apparently Lockheed worked on the model 2 and 3, not the model 1.

Thank you! Corrected the description.
Looks more like Tekken in the first half.
Lol Jacky was supposed to look like Jonhy Bravo !?
yes but, those graphics look like 1989, are you sure that akira was not replaced by siba and then came back? because it looks like VF began development in 1987. got released in 1993.

It kinda did. Yu Suzuki credits Shenmue as dating back to 1987, then badged Shenmue as "Virtua Fighter RPG" before becoming Shenmue once again. The earliest versions are CG and prerendered on the Model 1 hardware as test runs. Later shots are real-time on the Model 1 prototypes.
where is the footage from?
Its crazy because VF uses DirectDraw :D

It was on a Dreamcast disc called Virtua Fighter History. It came with the limited edition of Shenmue 2 in Japan.

So tekken and DOA bit off VF

Yes, but Tekken knew how to appeal to the general public. The stuff they added to the design was more fun to pick up and play. Still, yes, they built everything on the foundation of Virtua Fighter.
