Virittäjät 5, Episode 8 - Sami Mäkäräinen, 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type-RA 555,
The Virittäjät ('Test Drive by Mika Salo') episode, where I compete against ex-Formula 1 driver, Mika Salo.
Naturally, with a near stock Impreza, there was no chance of ever winning the title of "Virittäjä" ('Tuner'), but at least I got to prove one thing: When set up right, a low power car can defeat a lot of +500hp cars that have appeared on the show.
This Impreza had a maximum output of 300hp.
Originally I was going to compete with my red Skyline R32 GT-R, which you can find videos of on my channel.
My rough estimates of the BNR32's laptimes on the Alastaro Circuit would have been around the 1:27:00-1:28:00 mark, with the 380hp tune.
The set up on the Skyline was quite similar to the Impreza's, only taking the difference of wheelbase length and tire size into consideration, when adjusting the suspension and wheel alignment.
The Impreza clocked in a 1:29:40 time in the skilled hands of Mika Salo. This only further confirmed my suspicion, that the Skyline could have lapped the track faster, by at least a whole second or two.
Prior to the filming of the episode, I had told both, Mika and the co-host Tomi Tuominen, that the Impreza will definitely lap a time under 1:30:00, most likely a time near the 1:29:00, beating the time of 1:29:88, set by the +450hp Mitsubishi Lancer EVO8, owned by Aki "Akinaattori" Salmela, which it did, by half a second!

Officially? Only here: testmyride.tv/test-my-ride-finland-s05e09-subaru-impreza-type-ra-555 But the translation is horrible. I'll try to put together some subtitles for this in the upcoming weekends. I'll comment here again, once I'm done, so you can watch it subtitled.

Came here after watching that 1192hp E30 turbo run. Wonder what time that monster did. Shit was trying to kill the drivers at all times.

The E30 did 1:39, with a top speed of 132km/h on a standing start, driven by Mika Salo. The owner's lap time was 1:56, with a top speed of 112km/h.

@@WymiataczPlays The lap times and scoring results are all available on the Finnish wikipedia page for Virittäjät, just auto-translate it to English if you're curious about the times: fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viritt%C3%A4j%C3%A4t#Kilpailijat_ja_tulokset Sadly, I have no idea if the show is (or rather, why it isn't) available with English subtitles anywhere online, especially when you consider that the series has been sold for broadcast in Northern America too. The English title for the show is "Test my Ride" (sometimes called "Test My Ride with Mika Salo", but this is an old name that has since been dropped), but the English website it once had is gone, the production company Dakar has merged with two other companies to form a larger production company called "Filmbutik" and apart from the mentioning of 10 produced seasons in total on their website (including the African season, "Cape Town" and the German two season), there is nothing to find about Test My Ride online in English at the moment. I have all the episodes on an external hard drive, having been part of the production crew myself (hence my name in the credits as a cameraman), but without explicit permission to publish these on KZread with subtitles (as closed captions on YT), I can't do anything more than just showcase my episode. I wanted to post the full hd version of this episode and would have loved to add English subtitles to in it's CC, but I was specifically forbidden to do so (and I honestly have no idea why).

Näin ne kaikki tosiaan laukeaa ennemmin tai myöhemmin. Öljynvaihtoväli ja se miten luukutat autoa kylmänä vaikuttaa paljon kestävyyteen. Oma subaru vielä kunnossa *kop kop*

Tarkoittanet, että mikä oli syy. Ei siinä mitään syytä. Auto tuli meikäläiselle vaihdossa, enkä alunperinkään tahtonut omistaa sitä pitkään. Subarut eivät pahemmin kiinnosta.

Softaan ei pahemmin koskettu, eikä tehonmuutos ollut millään havaittavissa. Ei siinä voinut olla 290-300hv enempää.
vähän tuli myötähäpeän tunne kun tätä kahto :D mut kyllä propsit siitä että kehtaat olla oma ihtes telkkarissaki :D

Formula ykkösissähän minä. No ei, vaan hain sponsoreita tätä jaksoa varten, kun alunperin piti osallistua täysin eri autolla, mutta se myytiin ja aikaa saada Subaru kuntoon oli vain yksi kuukausi. Varallisuus ei antanut pahemmin myöten noin lyhyellä varoitusajalla, joten sponsorit jeesasivat.

@@tatzka1686 Lisätiedoissa aika paljon taustatietoa. Nissan Skyline GT-R oli meikän alkuperäinen auto, jolla oli tarkoitus osallistua.
