Virginia school district votes to restore Confederate names to two schools

Since the summer of 2020, dozens of schools in the nation named for Confederate leaders have changed their names, but this week, a Virginia school district has become likely the first in the nation to reverse course. The Shenandoah County school board overwhelmingly voted to restore the names of Confederate leaders to a high school and an elementary school.

Since you know so much about the Civil War and reconstruction, let us know the causes of the Civil War, how the economies were tied together, what the 13th 14th and 15th amendments are, what was sharecropping and Jim Crow laws etc. And then tell us how a school being named after people who don’t deserve it teaches all of that

What they don't teach in schools anymore : R. Halliburton shows that free black people have owned slaves “in each of the thirteen original states and later in every state that countenanced slavery,” at least since Anthony Johnson and his wife Mary went to court in Virginia in 1654 to obtain the services of their indentured servant, a black man, John Castor, for life. And for a time, free black people could even “own” the services of white indentured servants in Virginia as well. Free blacks owned slaves in Boston by 1724 and in Connecticut by 1783; by 1790, 48 black people in Maryland owned 143 slaves. One particularly notorious black Maryland farmer named Nat Butler “regularly purchased and sold Negroes for the Southern trade,” Halliburton wrote.

But it does sound so much better if it’s called Slavery.. Note, many blacks fought for their home with the Confederates. Then Lincoln ordered his general to destroy everything...and they did. Unfortunately..for the country,..the south was the bread basket, textiles, etc of the States. And which is one reason why the west was opened up for folks to move in and push out the natives. Shortages of foods,land,..and other needs of people were in short supply. Sharecroppers became the norm for many years to come. And history tells a false history on Lincoln....he didn’t free the slaves...nor cared one wit on the blacks in service.

It amazes me that such importabt tyranical moment is forgotten from history, the war of northern aggression was not about slaver thats only what the winners of the war pressed as the point. The government only offered freedom after the north could support the manpower requirements for the war. It was about taxes from a tyrant government and when they divided the war started. So if you thinking of just "leaving the union"...just remember government in America is a family...just a mob family.
