"The Dawn of Time" is the latest solo record by drummer extraordinaire Mr. Virgil Donati: drums in conjunction with an entire orchestra. When Virgil was visiting my hometown Frankfurt in April and we decided to go to the river Main to have a little chat about how this very artistic output came into life.

Virgil is such an incredible talent. No doubt he could have been anything he wanted to be in this world with his intellect and mindset. As a drummer, I'm glad that we've got him in our world. He is such a massive inspiration to me personally. Not just as a drummer, but as someone that's so considered, creative and determined. He's about as good as it gets! He should go down in history as one of the most advanced drummers ever, not to mention his ever growing catalogue of brilliant compositions, which are up there with any modern composer - classical or otherwise.

I own a copy of dawn of time. One of my favorite piece of music i ever heard. I love the deep meaning and the philosophie of that music. Its so deep and full of soul and knowledge. It sounds to me like the universe was music it would exactly sound like that. An outstanding piece of art, created by an outstandig human. I love it so much. I will never be tired of listening to that amazing work. Thank you so much Virgil.

he is always hailed as one of the best drummers in the world, but he is truly underrated as a composer.

Virgil's composition chops rival his drum chops. No joke! This album is one of my favorite purchases of the last decade!

A true artist: Totally connected, internal and external and with that with nothing and creating a new context!!!!! :) Thanks for this great philosophical drum-/lifetalk!!! Cheers, Jeroen Simons, Independent, ex- EPICA.

A common thread binds musicians of this caliber together. Like the great painters, sculptors, writers and artists of history, these musicians (Virgil and Gavin specifically, because they both analogize architecture with music) point their ambitions to lofty heights, places that transcend music and instead inhabit the highest aesthetic principles. They speak to our humanity. In many ways, musicians like these (and their counterparts in the other fine arts) are embodiments of the best of what it is to be human.
