Hi Midland. Great video. However, according to the factory manual, the hose should be positioned to the left of the bowl, not the center Because the bowl is on an angle, the fuel inside it will be lower on the left side than the right side. To see this more clearly, on the bowl draw a horizontal line that is parallel to the floor you're standing to and representing the desired level of fuel (that you can't see). Draw another horizontal line that represents the bowl's edge. The two lines will form an angle like that of the carb when it's installed on the bike (about 10 degrees for the front and 5 degrees for the rear). Now, on the first horizontal line -- the one parallel to the floor - draw three perpendicular lines that intersect the bowl line: one at the left, one in the center and one on the right. These three lines have different lengths due to the 10 degree angle. The factory manual uses the line to the far left as a reference for the 1.5 to 2.5 mm spec. Your video suggests using the line in the middle, but this will actually set the float lower for the same spec, and the engine will run leaner. Make sense?

Hello thank you for your detailed comment. I agree ,and yes it makes sense. I think the difference is negligible, however it could effect the fueling. If I ever get the carbs off again I'll have a look. Thanks again for sharing your opinion.

@@MidlandCruiser I also noticed in a previous video that you initially set the float to 19mm. The factory manual says 23mm to 25mm, but I think this value for initial setup of the "hose" method. Where did you get 19mm?

Excellent video and comments, the lack of this care has owners ruining engines by mixing gasoline in oil.

Hi. thank you, appreciate it. The ignition switch is held on from the back under the clocks by 2 bolts. You need to unplug it first from the harness, then remove the bolts and it pops right out, not difficult at all. I think you have to remove the headlight, then you can get to the bolts...

Good day, please make a video where you check the float level while the carbs are fitted in the bike, then meausure in the middle of the carb, on the left of the carb and the right hand side of the carb, you will see that the "front" cylinder carb is way more on an angle than the "rear" cylinder carb... and float level will be above the "1.5 mm" the manual suggest because of the angle, wont this have an affect while driving, specifically the "front" cylinder carb?

Hello. Sorry for the late reply. I will need to do fuel level once I'm back on the project, but can't tell yet when. I will do everything to the best of my knowledge...stay tuned, sorry all I can say for now.

Hi, i recently bought a virago 1100. I was just wondering where we can get replacement parts from a trustworthy website? Is there any way to fix a defect rpm/tachometer?

Hi, sorry for the late reply. You can try fix it obviously but it depends what went wrong, I'm not familiar with it's inside parts so I can't help you with that. If you are in the USA and after good quality second hand parts then go on Facebook and search for Harvey Maurer in this group (Virago motorcycles and Parts For Sale/Swap) facebook.com/groups/669919913113003/?ref=share He has loads of parts and very reasonable...I hope this helps a little 😉

Hello it might be your valve clearance is a bit big and making a ticking noise which will get faster if the revs go higher...check your clearance and try again. Also recommend to get a higher grade oil like a 20W-50 especially if you live in a hot country..hope this helps
