On another note the viper is considered a super care a base model corvette is not .. the man said in the video 0-60 in his viper was 3.8... guess what so is my corvette . Now throw. The original idea behind developing the Viper was to be a modern day Cobra as Bob Lutz put it. Over the years, Dodge slowly added more and more amenities to it while trying to keep the underlying theme of keeping it as bare-bones as possible. As for the engine, it's not at all a "tractor engine" as mentioned in the video. Where that joke originated from is the fact that Lamborghini first started out developing tractors and when they were producing the Viper, Chrysler owned Lamborghini and sought their help to make an aluminum version of the iron block V10 for the car. The aluminum Viper V10 shares next to nothing with its iron block counterpart except they both have 10 cylinders.

I daily drive a 2006 coupe. Vipers are so easy to live with it’s ridiculous. Best handling car and best feeling controls I’ve ever felt. Super cheap to maintain/insure. I couldn’t recommend more. The only draw back I think is gas mileage I get about 17-18 highway at 70mph my rpms are below 1k. Get one before they’re all gone!

I love my Viper, Viper is a RACE CAR with blinkers, I have a Corvette too and you cant compare it. I drove my Viper 140 mph, few weeks ago when they had a 101 freeway northbound closed towards Santa Barbara due to mud slides. Made 3 round trips on a closed freeway , just awesome experience. I drove F1 car at Vegas race track at 164 mph but its oval track and slicks.

The reason it doesnt sound like a high pitched euro v10 is because it is not a flat plane crank, its basically a magnum 360 with two extra pistons... I mean there are more differences but that's the gist of what they did at the beginning to make it

I've got a first gen Viper, all balls and no bullshit.

The last/latest gen of Viper can compete with Lamborghini and Ferrari, especially the ACR. However ones like the one you drove- when you start putting it through the turns- that's where things get dicey. It's a awesome drag car too and on the right track- oh boy!

Ferrari Dave Car Reviews I’ve never driven a Ferrari, but I own an older Viper. The most important thing I can say about that car in turns is that you can’t gas it hard coming out of turns or that snap oversteer will get you nine times out of ten. That coupled with the fact that you’re sitting right it front of the back tires will cause an inexperienced driver to overcorrect. If you roll into the turns smoothly, it’ll hold a G+. As far as a drag car, maybe I’m missing something but I don’t feel like it’s that fast from a dig. It might be the tall gearing. Just $.02 from a guy that knows nothing about Ferrari.

Jeremy Whitley the viper is really good for half/whole mile or even roll racing, but a quarter mile from a stop might be a bit short for it to really wind up.

lol the last gen can compete with ferrari lambo lmao u say? compare apples with apples, the viper has always been faster, compare a gen 2 or 1 with ferraris and 911 of the time, ie f355 think of how shit mid 90s 911 were in comparison..both were more expensive cars at the time from showrooms, vipers have an 8.0 base that is massive torque so it has peak power all the time regardless of rev, that is one of the advantages of vipers and what made them dominate racing around the world, you never saw and f355 or f430 dominate lemans. .and im not talking GT2-3 the original gen 2 viper that ran unrestricted beat GT1s and prototypes..this caused the fia to restrict the literage on cars to...u guessed it 8.0 now..guess which is the only car that races affected by the regs.. but unrestricted the vipers have always been at the top

The reason these cars didn't sell, is because they didn't offer an automatic and they had a reputation for being scary. They are reliable and well mannered (if a bit stiff)

GrandSportGuy1983 I hear ya. Funny thing about the C7... I got in one at a car show and couldn’t fit my back in the seat; an odd feeling. I’ve got a Viper now. With the exception of the gen V, they are extremely violent cars. You really have to appreciate it for what it is. When people whine about it being uncomfortable, that’s code for “it’s a race car”. Best of luck on your viper search. There are lots for sale out there.

I have a 01 acr and a c7 z06. Both fantastic cars. The vette an auto is a better trip car. Viper fun to drive on short trips and people notice the viper on road more. I think gen 2 with racing stripes best looking car ever made.

Ask a Porsche technician to replace your Viper's seats with the Porsche Recaro bucket seats instead. Presto! Replace the Viper's steering wheel with a more compact in diameter size steering wheel (custom made). Good luck, sir!

Either you get it or you do not. I have put 100's of thousands of miles on Viper's over the last 20 years. These cars can go head to head with most Exotics costing more than twice as much. The key is knowing how to drive and making the leap of faith that this rough and tumble car will do what you command it to do. If you cant do that, buy a Corvette. It will drive you.
