Just found this at a Cabela's. I was in there just to buy some turkey diaphragm calls, but "accidentally" ended up looking at the rangefinders they had on display. Lo and behold, to my absolute amazement, and what I'd been wanting for ages. FINALLY! A rangefinder that uses the more readily available CR123 lithium battery, instead of the harder to find, often more expensive and lower life span CR2 lithium battery. Not often that I do impulse buying. Usually, I like to watch a few KZread reviews and browse online written reviews, before making any significant purchases. However, being I already own the Ranger 1800, and being it hasn't let me down yet, I wasn't too worried or hesitant. Also, my brother was wanting to upgrade from his old Vortex(model unknown, doesn't have an illuminated display). He already wants to buy my Ranger 1800 off me now. Now back to the CR123 battery subject. Awhile ago, when I had tried to see if there's a rangefinder that did use CR123. There are, but my opinions were limited to ones that were big, bulky, and pricey(thousands upon thousands of dollhairs). Nope! One, I don't need a rangefinder that you could use to coordinate an air strike. Just something that'll range distances for rifle shooting. Which this one is more than sufficient for my application. Sheesh! 2000 yards for ranging a deer. Very doubtful I'll be taking a shot that long.

@@VortexOpticsUSA My new one is actually the Viper HD 3000. So far I'm liking it very much. Used it for doing some target ranging. Needed to do some zeroing on some rifles and a pistol. Definitely planning to do some more target shooting this coming weekend, after I do some turkey hunting and maybe squeeze in some mushroom hunting too.

Really pleased with my HD3000. Compared to several other brands at the Bass Pro HQ store in Missouri. Best balance of performance, clarity, toughness, and price. AND IT USES CR123A's!!!

Quick review..... IT DOES EVERYTHING IT CLAIMS TO DO.... 3000 max yards is NOT TRUE. I got 3722 Yards off of a MASSIVE white water tower on top a hill about 2+ miles away. I was using a tripod and the ELR setting. The ultra quick hand held ranging on normal mode was out to about 1800 yards beyond that you needed a tripod and a vertical lightly colored surface like a rock cropping, the lighter color the better. Also to to my surprise I ranged a neighbors house on a hill across the canyon at 1235 yards....The surprise came when I went out at 10 oclock at night in the pitch dark and got the exact reading. I didn't know it could range accurately in the dark,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, So with all that said YES I would buy it again.

You pay so much more for stuff made in the USA. That rangefinder would be 6-800 dollars if made here.
