Viofo A139 Pro Review: Cables, Cables Everywhere

Offering 4K resolution, interior and rear cameras, and a smart mobile app, the Viofo A139 Pro has everything you need from a dashcam-except the looks. While the device is bulky, it looks acceptable on your windshield without the extra cameras connected. But as soon as you switch to 3-channel mode and hook up the additional cables, it seems a bit of a mess.

Respectfully, I don't think they were trying to reach an audience that is looking for fewer wires, or people seeking an aesthetically pleasing dashcam. I'm honestly thrilled about this camera, mostly for the new sensor, and plan on picking up a two channel as soon as I can afford to. Transferring data between the cameras wirelessly would reduce the bit rate of the rear cam. I would love to see a camera with some sort of serial connector that goes to a main hub installed somewhere in the vehicle that supports a large capacity solid state drive. That would be absolutely incredible, although probably pretty power hungry for parking mode.

For me the solution seems simple… have the main processing unit tucked away up under the dash, then have a single cable run to each. This would further enhance safety by potentially making the main camera even smaller (I agree with you - no screen is an improvement). It would also allow the storage part of the unit to be hidden away somewhere making it more difficult for thieves to make off with the evidence. Finally, I do not understand why no after market stereo (that I know of anyway) has sought to integrate dash cams into the overall setup. (Rant complete 😂)

Alpine has a setup that is exactly what you have described, but it is really pricy.

I prefer this dashcam any day over a cleaner looking installation blackvue that has half the picture quality, the issue with the "cables everywhere" can be largely mitigated by more carefully choosing an installation spot.

Yes, dashcam installation is always the main issue, if the quality is good enough

I don't understand what the clear plastic film that goes on the screen before the camera mount is for. And how exactly should it be installed.

It's just a replaceable sticky pad, isn't it?

Dash cam not working. I just purchased a Viofo A139 pro, after many reviews I settled on this unit. And after 3 days many rounds with brused ribs from laying on my car seal . The problem was the unit would work intermittently would not stay on. The fix was the battery limits switch would shut it down in park mode. So pay attention to your battery voltage I had to put switch to the lowest voltage for it to stay on. It seems simple and stupid right , well it took me 3 days to figure it out , I hope this will save some poeple from a frustrating install.

Yes wrong… perhaps you aren’t familiar with the new 139 pro, the first to use the newly available image sensor from Sony

I use A129 4K cameras on all sides doing 5fps timelapse and I save all my videos! I just ordered an A139 Pro to replace the front one. Or I might run it in full 30fps
