Excellent, now my brain is racing trying to figure out more of these. These thought-provoking vids and topics are what keeps me interested in the #vc - thanks for the video.

One of the songs that made for interesting discussion when I was younger was Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Mainly because it took up all of side two clocking in at 17:05. Mars Volta also did a song called Cassandra Gemini from Frances The Mute that took up all of side D. Interesting showings Chris~ Rob/Boston

Can cope with In a gadda as it has a drum solo. Unnecessary clutter!

I fully concur with your comments about utilising extra post-retirement time. My contribution to the list would be any of the side-long tracks on Colosseum Live from 1971, especially the last track, all of side 4, "Lost Angeles" with the phenomenal vocal workout from Chris Farlowe and the guitar solo by Clem Clempson - post-Bakerloo and pre-Humble Pie. I saw them 3 times during that period, including at the Hollywood Festival, Newcastle-under-Lyme, June 1970.

Liberation - CTA - Terry Kath RIP. - The greatest guitar solo of all time imo - whist it doesnt take up the whole side its pure mind blowing.

Interesting Chris. Agree ambient music has lots of examples and plenty of the new ambient and jazz artists I follow have side-long tracks. Ricochet is a great example. Some sides that come to mind for me are Colosseum - 'Valentyne Suite', Caravan - 'Nine Feet Underground' and Donald Byrd - 'The Little Rasti'. Also both sides of Tull - 'Thick as a Brick' and Klaus Schulze - 'Mirage'. Cheers Dale

Love Mirage. Tbh you could show any Schulze LP as an example of side long songs. Contemplated Caravan but probably don’t like it enough. Must look out for Valentine Suite. Often pricey though. Cheers my friend, Chris

Hi Chris. Really interesting topic and well researched. A couple of standards that leap to mind ( from my prog angle) are Thick as a Brick and Suppers Ready and of course Gates Of Delirium by Yes

Suppers ready isn’t the only song on that side. There’s that little track Horizons beforehand. Not a fan of Tull but there are a lot of Yes tracks that fit the bill here. Cheers Dave, chris

Interesting video! I have a lot of the featured albums! And I don't know if it's me and an age thing but my attention span isn't the same as it used to be! I do love the tracks but I don't play them all the way through Also is it a generation thing where people's attention span is far less than it used to be! Having said that Purple, Rainbow and a few others I still enjoy listening to an entire side of one track!

I have to be doing something else whilst they are on. I can’t just sit there and listen. My attention span has definitely got worse!

Hey Chris, interesting to hear that richochet is your favorite TD album. I remember that the first time I heard it I was quite put off by the drumming. I think I don't mind it that mutch anymore, but I do agree that side 2 is brilliant. Side one of Oldfield's Incantations is a favorite for me - also side 2 of Schultze's mirage.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, should be mentioned! Echoes by Pink Floyd, Sad Eye Lady of the Lowlands by Bob Dylan on Blonde on Blonde, Freak Out, by Frank Zappa the track Return of the Son of Monster Magnate, Genesis track Supper’s Ready, Rare Earth, Get Ready, Steamhammer-Penumbra!

As a proghead and a fan of live jamming you won't find me arguing with you Chris. I love long tracks both composed and live extensions of shorter studio tracks. Great to see you mention the magnificent Dark Star (and that's not even the best version of the track). I'd vote for Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh by Magma which occupies 2 sides, Passion Play by Jethro Tull, and 2 by Floyd Echoes and Atom Heart Mother.
