Vinyl and Vinyl Cutters for beginners - Vinyl 101

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is an overview of working with vinyl and vinyl cutters. Vinyl cutters are awesome and super fun. Vinyl cutters are also sometimes called vinyl plotters. You can get a decent vinyl cutter for under 200$ and they will pay for themselves in awesome stuff you can do in no time.

    This guy's videos got me started cutting 8 or 9 years ago. I'm pretty sure he does airbrushing also. I started with a uscutter MH series, I don't recommend. Static was a major issue. The SC has been fine. I jumped to same laser point as this video. It's awesome. The best part of having a plotter, is making stickers to put on other people's cars. That they didn't want. Lol

    Good video. We use a Roland GX 24 in our sign shop You just set the origin at the bottom left. You can move the pinch rollers as close together as your vinyl is narrow no matter how small. Saves having the crafter type step of laying the vinyl on a cutting mat . Nice work Good luck with your projects dude.

    I have a small craft cutter, a Silhouette (actually I also have a larger Cricut that I got at an estate sale that I canNOT get to work with my laptop), and this is giving me a lot of ideas. I always think of vinyl cutters as the large, plotter-size machines, not like the little thing I use to cut paper and sometimes fabric. Duh. Suddenly, my motorcycle is going to get a lot more interesting. :)

    On your small design example I found that it is better to use a full piece of vinyl so that it hits all the rollers. The only difference Is I draw a border around the design on the computer so that it cuts an even box and doesn't waste vinyl. The problem with using a mat material, like in your example, is it makes the depth of the material to be cut thicker and you have to adjust your blade.

    @@Commandodesigns No worries, really enjoyed learning what you have to teach... I'm curious in how color graphics are printed and cut, an example being motocross bike graphic kits... I don't get how they can be printed and then cut out with a vinyl cutter so precisely, is this something you could / or have covered? Cheers.

  • @Commandodesigns

    @Commandodesigns

    5 жыл бұрын

    The professionals use printers(plotters) that are designed to print on white vinyl. Then they place the printed sheets into a lamination machine that adds a sheet of clear UV protectant film. Then they feed the laminated designs into a big vinyl cutter. They line up the cuts using small marks called registrations marks that are printed into or on the outside of the design. That's why real vinyl graphics are so expensive. They're time consuming and labor intensive to make. Hope this helps.

    You are not able to set the home point of the blade? This would allow the user to designate the start point of the cutter. For smaller formats you can start near the center of the cutter and not always at the default start point. When the job is finished or the machine is restarted, the blade would go back to the default home or start point.

    Are the two vinyl cutters you have in your description your top recommendations even in Summer 2019? Your video is one of the few on KZread that gives me confidence you know what you're talking about, but this video is a year and a half old, so I was curious if anything else came out that you would recommend. I'm working with $300-400. I'm more in-tune with the PC tech space and how much content and high quality reviews there is out there for that space, so trying to find vinyl cutter related videos, especially ones that are as detailed and informative as yours, were pretty hard to come by. Thanks in advance!
