off the cuff demo of this fine little amp - no pedals - reverb added on mixdown after recording. mic a few feet in front of the amp, an akg c1000.....Backplate is suggesting this amp is 1963

Thanks Captain...I acquired this amp in 1997, it had an unoriginal fat diamond black tolex (a la 1970's stylee) on it, and a blue fretcloth...the output transformer had been fried and was missing, with just the remnants of a fire in it's place.....the speakers were gone also...so I rebuilt the output stage, replaced the valve bases and stained and oiled the wood....replaced the handles what was left of them.....and the supply caps/speakers...and there she is.....a fat, distorting sweet mama....

dont worry about reissue speakers folks. I A/B ed newer UK made alnico Blues with my original blues from my 62 AC30 and they are so very close to the same...in fact i prefer the new ones as i think they just sound a lil better. very very close though. no need to waste your money on vintage blues when the new ones sound a lil better and i think almost everyone would agree and be surprised if they would do the same and A/B them. of course my new ones are well broken in too. like several years broken in. the old vintage blues arent worn out either but they are some how louder and kind of hurt your ears because they are so loud. thats the biggest difference i could find. it is weird because the new blues are supposed to be rated at 100db effiencency so the old blues might be more than that or they just sound louder wich is possible....all i know is the tone sounds the same except the old blues hurt my ears and seem louder and the new ones sound the same but dont hurt my ears....and the new ones seem better on leads than the old ones too....almost like there is more stuff around the notes slightly...more pleasing to play than the older blues....all this was a shockingly pleasant surprise to me and i now use the new set of blues in my ac30 and it sounds better than it ever has....and ive yet to hear a better sounding ac30 after i did this. im very happy with this setup and a big believer in the current celestion blue made in UK. MIne is serial number 7236 and needs a booster to sound like this - most rock guitarists (e.g. Rory Gallagher and Brian May) would boost the normal channel. Haven't heard one sound like this without a booster, and I've heard lots.

This is the exact tone I'm looking for. How do you get it to sound so thick? I have a vox ac30 black comet special edition and an american deluxe fender strat. The amp has plenty of chime, but it's not nearly as warm or thick (unless I put the tone cut knob all the way up, but I think it just emphasizes the lower freq.). Perhaps playing at louder volumes and replacing the stock tubes might help?
