This is in my opinion, the best Barbie era. Pure glamour and excitement. 💎 To me this is when Barbie went from being an abstract mannequin doll , to looking more human. Her face was almost “alive” with that sweet , kind yet glamorous expression. Beautiful flowy long hair with some body and bounce , and of course those dazzling “diamonds” and glamorous wardrobe. She truly became a star.

I still have my original 11.5 inch Superstar Barbie (and dress and shoes) from back in the day. I was about 16 years old and totally embarrassed to be buying a Barbie doll, but she was the most beautiful Barbie I'd ever seen. I didn't really play with her, although I did re-dress her to another Superstar fashion, which is why her original dress is still as vibrant now as it was then. That was the start of an out-of-control collection! LOL

My first Barbie was Superstar Barbie. I received her and her townhouse for Christmas. I was 7 and a half. I loved her and how exciting it was to press on her diamanté ring and earrings. She also had a necklace. She was so pretty. I got the black sparkly dress later on. Maybe for my birthday.

That was great fun - 1977 was a marvellous year - i think my sister had barbie in a ballet costume and I had the Sindy copy. Heaven.

This is so crazy ! I just looked this up ,she Was my one favourite Barbie ! I loved her and her clothes shoes and hair earrings …Was 88 and I was 3 years old . I lost her in a move and it scarred my childhood lol . An hour away I never found her again . Just a memory and she looks just as I remember her . Awsm

I love how full volume the dolls hair back in 80 and 90s recent Barbie are less inspiring. Mattel really need to bring back the fantasy and excitement

Rachel, I so LOVE Bradley Justice Yarbrough's Super Star Barbie:)!! I so LOVE that Joyce Clark face mold from the 1970s:)!! And although sadly I never had the Super Star Barbie, I still have my Ballerina Barbie, which is from the 70s:)!! And I so LOVE the Supersize Barbie Doll:)!! I also really LOVE that Reproduced Superstar Barbie with her extra glamorous outfit:)!! And when I was a Child, I had a Club which I called, " The Super Stars" after Super Star Barbie:)!! I've wondered if the SuperSize Barbie was meant to compete with the original larger sized Tuesday Taylor. She was released a couple of years prior to Superstar Barbie, and had already been entirely replaced by the 11 1/2" version by that point I believe, though. That doll of course also had two-tone hair, and a very glamorous image.

I didn't know that there was an 18" Barbie ! So glad that they made reproduction Barbies.I really want to get some of the Ken reproduction doll. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing information about Superstar Barbie. I recently found her at thrift store for one dollar. So I decided to buy her to rescue her. I gave her spa day…to my surprise her hair was beautifully long and have great movements…so I styled it with her long bangs (few strands) to be tied on back underneath making it looks like she had it over her ears. I found pink vintage dress with pink shawl on eBay. Now I need to find her shoes…just curious what her shoe should look like. She’s such a beautiful doll…looking perfect being just like brand new. I think she has been hardly been played with. She has no holes on her ear for earrings…so I researched on google…find out she’s the first released version? Just curious. Thanks for the video!

Loved this presentation, I am a huge SuperStar fan. Most of my collection is 70s and 80s dolls, though I do have quite a few Vintage and Mod dolls as well. I probably have more duplicates of the 1977 SuperStar Barbie doll than any other doll, I don’t even know how many examples I have of this doll. When I was little, I never got a real SuperStar Barbie doll, but I did get 1981 Roller Skating Barbie, who was basically a redressed version of SuperStar Barbie (although the Philippines-made version is unique, only the Taiwan-made version is a dead ringer for SuperStar Barbie). I loved that doll more than any other back then, she was ‘the’ Barbie doll of that era. So of course as an adult collector I went crazy collecting multiple examples of SuperStar Barbie and Roller Skating Barbie, and those fantastic fashions of the SuperStar era. My very favorite year for Barbie fashion has to be 1979, the Designer Originals alone are incredible. Mattel really should reproduce some of those, especially “City Sophisticate” and “Golden Firelight”. My second favorite year for Barbie fashion is 1968, I also really love the Mod era. I have several SuperStar Christie dolls, but they are much harder to find than Barbie. If they had come up as often as the Barbie version, I would have a crowd of them, but I think I only have four or five examples of the original SuperStar Christie. The new repro doll is a wonderful addition who joined my collection recently. I have redressed her in one of the original 1977 SuperStar fashions, “Spotlight On Romantic White”. Now that is a fashion Mattel needs to bring back as a repro, I think collectors would love it. I happen to have a pristine example, but most of the ones you find in the wild are dingy and rumpled, and the satin doesn’t really respond well to restoration. One of the things I love about the SuperStar era is the structures. The 1979 Barbie Dream House, the 1977 Barbie Star Traveler Motorhome and the 1980 Barbie Dream Pool are absolutely iconic, and they were all introduced during the early SuperStar era. I love staging those playsets with gorgeous SuperStar dolls, and these three playsets, along with the 1983 Barbie Dream Cottage, are the main displays in my doll room. All meticulously restored by me, of course. One thing I always wished that Mattel had done was to introduce more SuperStar characters. There’s really only Barbie, Christie and Ken, and of course Super Teen Skipper. I would have loved to have seen a SuperStar P.J. at least, and perhaps a SuperStar Kelley, Cara, and Curtis. 1978 Fashion Photo P.J. is the closest we ever got to a SuperStar P.J., and she is one of my favorite dolls of all time. She's another hard to find one, but I have a few, and they're all dressed in SuperStar-era fashions. This doll actually inspired me to find ways to replace the original rhinestones in SuperStar jewelry. I was able to find point-back rhinestones in the right size and color to give all my P.J.'s the appropriate blue rhinestone jewelry. And of course I had to get creative after that, and I added rhinestones to Rocker Barbie's "empty" jewelry pieces, swapped out every dingy or faded rhinestone in my collection, and color-matched the jewelry to the fashions in my collection. "City Sophisticate" looks fantastic with red rhinestone jewelry, for example, and "In The Limelight" with green.

I’m looking at your video and those shoes were hard to buckle on or catch on, even ballerina Barbie slippers were with those buckles, and I was eleven years old at the time, but Superstar Barbie was very beautiful, I loved her jewerly

She was my girl when I was 10! I just washed up her pink and black dresses. Sadly only one pink shoe left. The anniversary Superstar Christie has arrived and they are hitting a red carpet as soon as Barbie gets her hair done!
