    An electronic multi-meter is a must have tool if you want to figure this or any other vintage electric toy out. They can be had for less than 10 dollars. There is a small learning curve but You will be able to use it to quickly identify where the bad track is. It will also tell you if the power supply is putting out the correct voltage.

    When it comes to older track pieces, I have found that you need a weak rubber band to hold the trigger down part way for several minutes to “warm up the track” before you try running the cars. I have a Tyco track that you have to do this with. Got this track from “Sears” when I was a teenager.

    @@ScottCrusher-You don’t need a strong rubber band to hold the trigger all the way, wide open. You need a weak rubber band to hold the trigger about halfway open for around 10 to 15 minutes. Once I “warm up” my Tyco track, the cars run just fine. Give it a try. It honestly does work.

If I ever can get a place of my own again, I'll probably go to swaps and get more track (including an AFX standard 2 way main section - GR module is only one way), and possibly more cars from the same era... Good Day Mate. I am sure by now you have worked this out... All it is (in my eyes) is that maybe the CONNECTIONS is not being made. What we did was put Felt on a 4 x8 sheet of plywood and lay out the track shape we wanted and then glue/screw the track so it would not move or come a part. you wi have to go through EACH Piece of track to find the broken connection/track... BEST OF LUCK!

    G'day G! Yeah, I understand that it really comes down to the connections being lost at some point. I really like the idea of fixing the track permanently to an even surface as you did, but I live in an apartment and unfortunately don't have the space for that type of set-up (it would be awesome though!). We previously set it up on my brother's floor so for all I know the uneven surface was to blame. I am really hoping it's as simple as one broken connector/track piece, but closer to Christmas when I have some more time on my hands I will get it sorted, and make a follow up video. It looks like you got some good advice from the comments below. I race primarily slotless (both Tyco and AFX), but I'm also a Star Wars action figure collector. Just seeing your video today, my comments are year behind. You can test your slot car chassis out with a 9-volt battery. I am sure that parts are available, either on eBay or through Slot Car Central of New York. Bob at SCC has a wealth of knowledge and usually responds within 24 hours if you need parts. The track rails can be cleaned with fine grit sandpaper or a Teflon scrubber. As far as broken track goes, I would definitely replace it. I have had limited success with JB weld keeping the tabs held together. Tomy is most likely the manufacturer of the Formula 1 set and I am sure that there are similar track pieces out there that you can get. I am pretty decent when it comes to getting a slot car to run and/or restoring a vintage Kenner motor and LED; however, when it comes to computerized stuff, I am really out of loss. If it is not working, you have nothing to lose with taking it apart and cleaning all of the terminal connections with rubbing alcohol or brasso. Sometimes polishing up the solder will get everything working again. On my channel, I may have a video that helps in regards to what you are doing, although, like I said, I race almost exclusively slotless. I also have some Star Wars videos that may interest you. All in all, I hope you got your set working again.

    Hi Jim, thanks so much for taking the time to provide some great advice. Some time has passed but the advice is still very much appreciated. I actually decided to sell the Formula 1 set to a fellow collector who was going to put some time into that set to bring it back to life. It didn't quite hold the same nostalgic connection as the Ghost Racer set (even though it's a far cooler track and set-up), but I still have the Ghost Racer in the collection and I remain set on getting that going. Unlike the vintage action figures which make a great permanent display, I don't have the space in my collection room to keep a slot car track set-up, so I need to find some time and space to make that happen. I actually just watched your philosophy on toy collecting video and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to checking out more of your channel! Thanks again mate.

    Scott, I'm surprised no one has left any constructive comments on your dilemma... I just sold a like new Ghost Racer set with a great condition box a couple of days ago for $59 US, less the cars, which I retained for myself :o) Anyway, those controllers wear out with use as they are pretty cheaply made, so for starters when squeezing the trigger it should (obviously) make the cars start slow and speed up as more trigger is used. If there are breaks in the car running or it speeds up and slows down with a steady trigger then that would be the first issue. If the controllers work fine then the next step would be to gently bend each track power tab out slightly then put them together allowing the power to go from one track section to the next. If you still have nothing from track section to section then the track needs to be cleaned. A simple test for that would be just take a coin and rub it flat side down up and down the nest track sections power strip a few times. That should cure it! If it does, then use a (plastic) dish cleaning scrub pad to the rest of them. A rubber eraser will also work, both on the track and especially on the cars pick up shoes, but it will make a mess on the track...

  • @ScottCrusher

    @ScottCrusher

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks very much for the advice mate. I appreciate you breaking it down step by step, because I see that the issue could be one of a number of things. From when I last tried to use the set I believe the controllers worked OK, and the power was progressive the more the trigger was pulled, but I'll definitely try again. Playing with the track piece tabs is a great idea because for all I know it could have been a connection issue, and I definitely need to give the track pieces a clean, so I appreciate that. That's a great price on the Ghost Racer set you sold, at least by Australian standards, so I'm sure the new owner is stoked. Thanks again for watching and sharing your knowledge :)

    @@ScottCrusher My pleasure, us "adult kids" need to help each other out when possible! One more thing I failed to mention... When you get your cars running around the track and have an occasional stop for no obvious reason (more than likely a slightly dirty track) you can use a "conductive lubricant" sparingly used on the track at the stop points, or a tiny drop placed on each of the car's contact shoes and ran across that section of track a few times. It's rather pricey stuff, but worth it's weight in gold! I'm sure there are multiple brands on the market, but I use Bachmann's EZ lube "conductive contact lube." IF YOUR HAVING TROUBLE With CONNECTIONS, power on power pack /transformer if you can hear it hum,its working, if you have controller connection problems, clean up inner sockets by spinning by hand one size smaller than holes drill bit gently to peel off corosion,TAKE EACH PIECE AND SAND IT WITH 2000 GRIT SAND PAPER ON RAILS TILL THEY ARE SHINY, AND DONT USE COURSER SAND PAPER, IT WILL SRATCH THE TRACK, ALSO VERY IMPORTANT TO LOOK AT AND SAND PRONG CONNETIONS till shiny ,ON EVERY PIECE OF TRACK, AND LOOK TO SEE IF THEY ARE TIGHTLY CONNECTED, IF A PRONG IS MISSING ON A PIECE of track.Throw IT AWAY AND REPLACE THAT PIECE, THEN CLEAN DUST OFF TRACK WITH DAMP CLOTH. BE SURE THE TRACKS POWERED OFF BEFORE CLEANING WITH WATER. Then REMEMBER TO CHECK underneath slot car chasiss on rear axles and clean hair and fuzz out of axle, and make sure cars have springs under pickup shoes, to make good contact. Have fun, and remeber before you try it to say the words, Now Wise From Your Gwave... kind of funny, thats the way it sounds on sega gennesis altered beast. Hope you can get it going, let us know if you do.its exciting! The other one, indy track controller you can cut open gently if no screws and find wire and splice it with wire connectors, but will still need controller lead to plug in, if you got it going you could tape it with red colored tape. Spray wd40 on all track wipe clean then with fine sand paper sand all the rails till shiny. Now clean track with lillte bit of alcohol so hey are not slippery from he wd40.. Cost racer control track, take back of and clean all contacts with electrical cleaner and or alcohol and fine sand paper... All your problems are just oxidation

    Thank you very much for this. That would be awesome if all track pieces and contact points can be fixed with a clean/sand and no need for replacement. I will give this a shot, thanks again👍🏼
