From experience, I've learned not to throw away any of the paneling until after the job is done. All of the old stuff will be extremely useful as patterns to cut the new stuff from. And PLEASE, document ALL of the renovation. It's fun for all of your subscribers to follow, and you'll enjoy looking back on it in the future. Best of luck with your project.

I'd agree. I expect it's a case of easy to rip apart, but a pain to get it back together properly.
Some tips from someone who's done a few of these: 1) Paint the roof with Aluminum RV roof paint, it seals all the screw holes and reflects the sunlight. 2) Take pictures before you take anything apart, it helps even with building new stuff 3) Get lots of tupperware containers and keep screws, bolts, hardware, etc. so things don't get lost 4) Don't take too much apart at once. Pick a small section, and rebuild it all the way. It's easy to start tearing everything apart, and the next thing you know it gets too difficult to put back together!!! 5) Keep your RV well ventilated, and use desiccant if needed for moisture control. It's easy to get too much humidity inside from a shower, your breath, etc... and then the wood rot begins!! 6) Think about using FRP for your paneling, it's waterproof and cleans very easily. It is very difficult to work with, but once it's in it will last FOREVER :-) Cheers!!

Thanks for the tip! Never knew about this material. I looked it up: Fiberglass reinforced panels, or FRP, are thin, flexible plastic panels made of strong polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass. They are used on walls and ceilings and can be installed directly over drywall, wood, concrete block, and many other solid surfaces. Cost for 4' x 8' panel is $32. They also come as plain vinyl sheets (no fiberglass) shaped like a brick wall, tin tiles, shiplap, textured, or smooth. More research is needed as to pros and cons and how to cut it, mount it. Looks like an industrial glue paste is recommended like Loctite Power Grab or Liquid Nails Extreme Heavy Duty Adhesive.

@@lass-inangeles7564 I used FRP on the inside of my Sprinter van 9 years ago, and it still looks like new (And I full time in it). I mounted it with the mushroom grommet/washers that Mercedes uses for their panelling, with the self tapping screws. Cutting it was easiest with an angle grinder or circular saw. Jigsaw made rough cuts. I thought it might expand/contract because of severe temp. swing inside, but it doesn't. What's great is it's almost cutting board tough and super easy to clean. And you can even order it in an OK variety of colors. By FAR the best paneling I know for inside an RV if you want it to last forever!

@@nonebiz2132 These are very helpful tips, thank you!! So it looks like its not a brittle material due to the fiberglass making it more flexible and resilient. A fine blade on a circular saw would probably cut this fast for big panel work. I also have a Dremel Saw Max which is a mini angle grinder type tool for more detailed cuts. Great info. I guess you can paint with oil primer + latex on these panels as well, right? I need bright colors inside. So you don't need any adhesive, just grommets? This makes it even better - modular and replaceable.

My husband and I completely overhauled a 15 ft camping trailer last summer. It was soooo much more work than we thought it was going to be. But we got it done and we are so proud of our little project! I told my husband that if we can survive that overhaul without killing each other, than we can survive anything!
"Goo Gone" guys for getting all that gunk off
Totally document it all for us! I’d love to do something like that too!!

Wild We Roam, in my opinion, set the standard on rebuilds and van/camper travels. I don’t begrudge Nate and Kara but most people I know don’t have their kind of money that allows them to buy a ready to go camper. All these other folks, including Eric and Allison, are providing inspiration and encouragement for others who would have to buy cheap(er) and put in the sweat equity.
Love how wide your eyes are, filled with excitement and anxiety! Looks like you are having a blast together even though it's a huge challenge. Allison, you are rockin' that tool belt!
Save the wall panels for patterns when you replace it. Trust me, you will be glad. I LOVE remodeling!
Top tip for removing stickers etc is a product called "Goo Gone" It literally soaks into the sticky residue after decals are removed and you can usually just wipe it clean in one go, brilliant stuff and much easier than manual removal.
Yes show more renos, it's a cool process to watch. Good job so far 👍🏼❤️
Re-seal the roof, too!!!!
How exciting to see how these were built, nice going! I had a lot of valve stem issues, esp on the dually rear inside tire as i used a rubber curved valve stem extension. Almost all the stems leak! Get stainless steel type. 6:47 - Same issue with my Class C. Its most likely a leak along the fiberglass exterior seam front of the cab where it meets the side. Redo the seam from outside. Most likely the whole structure is damaged from what I see. If you find this to be the case, you need to peel back the fiberglass shell outside, rebuild the carcass with clean wood and plywood, then use fresh fiberglass to cover. If you do this, eliminate that front long window - another notorious leaker of rain. Please tie back your long hair anytime you are working with tools or DIY. Its should be as standard as goggles and gloves. Fan blades, machinery, etc can tangle up with very serious consequences. You never know. Plus you see better. What you currently have is still too long for work. Keep the old wood pieces as templates for new wood shaping. Don't be quick to throw anything out permanently. Sell the couches. You can get $100 each or more. These cost a lot and many people want extra beds or dinettes in their toy haulers for the kids. I made $200 on my dinette and $200 on the couch - both 20 yrs old. The frame is in demand. Those masks can be washed and reused. Dremel tool is best for this kind of work, in case anyone needs to know. The Dremel Multi Max 45 is excellent with choice of several blades to scrape, cut wood, and cut carpet. There is no other tool made that can cut so flat and close to the edge, not even a jigsaw. A must for RV work. Harbor Freight and Amazon sell blade replacements cheaper. Dicor Lap Sealant - rubber compound to seal exterior. RV standard. Do not use Silicone. Butyl Tape - for all joints to waterproof. Also a rubber compound. Sikaflex instead of Silicone for window trim sealing. Comes in many flavors. Oil Polyurethane mixed with Mineral Spirits 40:60 ratio coating will give you some water proofiing on wood in vulnerable areas like the cab loft. You both did a superb job removing that gross carpeting and replacing all the dead wood in cab area. These are major renovations, a huge workload, and takes solid skills. Adds enormously to the value of the camper. Floor might be damaged too, but keep at it. Its a wonderful makeover. Well done!
I swear this couple is so adorable. Make as many videos as you can.
Its never too soon for a dance party! It's really incredible to see how much work you are both putting into the old gal, can't wait to see the fully finished product! P.S. so glad no asbestos!

Yes do more videos. My wife and I are on day 61 of a 146 day 11k driving RV adventure. This vlog gives us something to watch besides the news. Keep up the adventure!
Those renovation jobs always take longer than expected. But thoughtful persistence and patience always pays off in the end.
I love the 70s camper. You renovating it is not only great for you, but you can pass it on to another one day. Thanks for keeping waste out of junkyards!!
Set up some time lapse cameras and document the process. Still in some pretty tight lockdown here in London, so it's nice to see someone else getting the chance to do something fun.
Yeah, definitely show all the renovation! I think people like renovation videos and van/RV building and reno videos. They're pretty popular these days.
Not just the cabover windows, check wall to roof seams and any roof marker lights, fan openings etc for leaks. Remove all rotted or mildewed wood. Check roof material (EDPM or TPO) for cracking surface deterioration. Reseal all seams & edged with Dicor. If needed recoat roof with rv roof sealer. Just cutout rotten floor sections over bracing with the oscillating saw and lay in new material. Seal & undercoat. You're doing great! Keep up the good work!👍
Love how 2020 gives you guys lemons and you just make lemonade! Awesome stuff! 😀
"Turd" was a popular colour in the 70's in a thousand different shades, I still have some crockery from then in various shades of brown. I hope your woodwork skills are up to the job, proper joints on the framing is important for strength not just glued and screwed.
As a Tradesman I,m watching through the gaps in my fingers. Thats a lot of work already but I wish you well. Don,t get discouraged.
Yes, I want to see MOOORE! It's fascinating to watch you restore this old girl😀
Blimey, I can’t believe how practical you are. I thought you were IT geeky types! I would be useless at this, DIY is more a case of HSF (Hire Someone Fast) for me. You’re clearly having a blast doing this, long may it continue. Looking forward to updates! Matthew, Manchester x

I am loving the renovation videos. With corona virus here for the next couple of years, I think many of us who like to travel will be considering doing the same thing.
I'm happy to watch both local travel and renovation work. It's always good to see the progress with a Reno. Please though don't feel pressured to go at a faster pace with the Reno. I imagine it will be quite stressful at times, so slow and steady. I am a fairly recent follower (4-5 months) so thanks guys for keeping us entertained throughout covid.
