Vintage M.A.S.K. Thunderhawk Repairs + Stickers - Toy Polloi
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Time for another vintage Kenner M.A.S.K. restoration. This time it's Matt Trakker's Thunderhawk. This is the first of two videos fixing up this toy as there are a lot of things that need to be fixed, or even made from scratch. In this video we repair the rear fin, fix the door mechanism, make new stickers, and do a few other repairs to get it ready for display including new bombs and a replacement box.

Your sticker recreations are one of the most satisfying parts of your restorations. I can tell you've got it down to a fine at art at this point.

⬆️ Agreed 💯. I wish I had those skills
My younger brother had this as a kid and it was a wonderful toy. It’s fun seeing you restore and share this line.

Same here. :) I got to play with it a lot so a win for me.
I really enjoy finding out how the toys of my youth worked. More specifically, how the toys my friends had worked - most of the ones I owned I'd taken apart (and I even manged to put a lot of them back together again 😎).
Another one for the books, Dave. I Can always count on learning something every time on the Toy Polloi channels. Thanks for everything you do for the collector/restorer communities all over the world. Off to fix my Thunderhawk!!! Rock on, Dave!! See you on the next exciting episode of Toy Polloi!!

I loved the MASK toys as a child. If I had the room I would collect them again.

I'm having great fun working on these. I missed them at the time so it's all new to me now.
I had this one as a kid. Can confirm that the red rear bumper never did go all the way down, and the jet exhausts were always partially visible, just like yours after the repair.
Another great restoration Dave. You are the reason I got into restoring vintage toys I had as a kid. I now keep spare lego parts no matter what they are.

Absolutely love your channel mate 👍 all the way from the land of down under. 😁😁😁
Nice. I had roughly the same problem except for me the problem was at the top. The black part (chassis inlay) is held in place by 2 little grey pegs. Those where worn or something along those lines, and thus their grip was not strong enough to keep the black part it in place once upward pressure was applied to the little black release-notch by the spoiler in a downward position. Your solution would not have work: I would have needed to put so much material under it it would wedge itself against the rear window/car body. Applying 2 drops of glue to the pegs when the inlay was in place, however, solved the problem brilliantly!
Brilliant Dave!!! Looks box fresh now! Especially couple with Insa Mask box and accessories, what a vehicle 👏👏👏
Still have my childhood Thunderhawk in very good condition, with box, insert and plastic bag 🙂

Brilliant! Awesome job!
The tail issue is something literally all of the Thunderhawks have, design flaw.

Ok, that's good to know. It's easy to fix then as you can see.

This was a toy of the 80s, so quality control was WAY different
Mine from childhood had the same issue with the rear fin. Great work, Dave!
M.A.S.K.tastic restoration, Dave.
Well executed as usual!
Awesome video, can't wait to see the next video on that thunderhawk that's in worse shape.
That's actually one of my favorite Camaros
Great video. Have one that is still disassembled (got frustrated). You're lucky the doors stay closed.
I am so damn curious about the 2857! 😂
Great video Dave! the mask you have for Matt Tracker isn't cut down. . The original ones were that small. They started making them bigger because they were easily lost and a choking hazard.

Thanks for watching. Sadly that MASK has really bad cut marks on it, not the clearest in the video. So a replacement was needed. But I'll use the other for something else.
Nice toy car Nice job wel done

Anybody remember the 80s cop show called hunter? It featured a camaro that was identical to thunder hawk. I think the intro is on KZread so check it out.
I recommend upgrading to StraightJacketProductions M.A.S.K. stickers. They have been completely redrawn, and look much nicer than the original ones.
@toypolloi

Or I could use the ones I completely re-drew and am giving away for free so anyone can use them. As shown in this video. Cheers
The original helmets, the ones that came with the vehicle figure didn't have the chest part. The bigger helmets with the chest part comes in the replacement helmet pack they used to sell. The first helmet (unless was a replacement cutted) is the original helmet that comes with the figure in the Thunderhawk. I had that you as a kid and a I make the mistake to take the you to the school and okay with it in class and my teacher took it and throw it away. *Emotional damage*

@@toypolloi that was another era. I'm from a latin country and teachers by that time was seen as second parents, besides was and old fashioned already old woman that by the time already had classic habits of teaching. I was on 4th grade.
I’m excited to see you restore a more beat up looking one. And I wonder who makes reproduction tires for MASK vehicles. As worn out rubber tires is quite the recurring thing in toys like these.

That will be along in a few weeks and I cover the tires and wing tips in that video!
That intro was the bomb! ( does your mask emit plastic weld?) 🤓

Since the Thunderhawk uses gullwing doors to double as the wings I wonder why Kenner chose the Camaro over the DeLorean?

Probably couldn't get the license for it.
How do you remove old stickers? Hot water or WD40? And how to fix the gun on the doors to keep then in position. Not flappy.. thanks for all the tips. Your video hello me to remove the seat belt to complete a clear light thunderhawk 👍🙏🔥
@toypolloi

I use lighter fluid to remove the stickers. What do you mean flappy?
I now have another one that has a problem . One I might not get fixed: the rear windshield in not sitting correctly. It sits in the outside instead of the inside, creating a gap between the side of the windshield and the body. 1 side I can "force" inside but the other does not seem to budge. Any tips are welcome.

This one has definitely been cut down. You can see the cut marks on it.
The tail always frustrated me as a kid. That gap is just how it is. I still have it downstairs and it is like that showing just a hair of the tail pipes.

That's interesting to know. So it wasn't just mine. And it's pretty easy to fix.
So I did this and everything is fine but I’ve lost the spring action for this missles while doing This my question is where does this spring go for the missles to sling load cheers

Hello Toy Polloi! I was wanting to know if you could help me with a vintage rancor I've had for some time. It's just in a really sorry state; it doesn't match anywhere near the original paint color anymore and has some problems standing on its own. I would love to see you take a crack at fixing it, and restoring it to its former glory.
@toypolloi

Hi, I have a video on repairing the arm on one. And other videos that will help with loose limbs. Cheers
I regularly watch your restoration videos including gijoe figures. I have about 20 figures from 1988-95 which I want to sell as I cannot restore them on my own. Let me know if I can sell them to you.
I miss this line. I feel a remake would equal 1) original designed cars that won’t look anywhere near their licensed counterparts. 2) poorly made with cheap plastics and pegged wheels. 3) It’ll be quality. Look licensed. But be $300 each.
when you said a child might have wrote it, I just assumed someone had circumvented child labor laws.
Dude you shouldnt have told everyone about 2857. No one outside the ancient circle of Ken can know about it. We now must dispose of you and all who watched this video. The blood is on your hands!!!!

Thunderhawk was always a bit of a pig. Raven, Firefly and Manta were far superior toys when it came to flying cars.
