I have a HUGE Weiss brooch given to me by my next door neighbor who is also a dear friend. I recently discovered verdigris surrounding the outer egde of the very large faux pearl in the center and am petrified to attempt cleaning it for fear of ruining the piece. I watched your cleaning tips video awhile ago and seem to recall that faux pearls can be easily damaged. Can you point me in a direction to solve the issue? Would love to send you a photo.

Ahhhh the dreaded verdigris. Please email me a picture At iamthefunkypickle at gmail and I’ll have a look. Imitation pearls have paint on them that is quite fragile. You could try very gently rubbing a VERY SOFT toothbrush on the verdigris which might dislodge some of it. You may be able to very slightly dampen the toothbrush first. If it’s bad, I wouldn’t recommend vinegar as it’s too hard to keep off of the pearls. Ketchup is more controllable since it’s thicker, but you should proceed with caution. Maybe try on an inconspicuous area and see if it does the trick. Send me a pic tho. Thanks for watching!
