Glass💙… always a favorite of mine. My mother was not a big collector of Jewelry. But, the sparkly AB glass pieces she had in her top drawer left hand side under the slips in the green box w/ green velvet lining 😉… were always calling to a young Suzy🌸

😊 My pleasure & thank you for watching, Kelleen! 💖 I’ll explain more about the addition of these elements in my next video - often they were used to help reduce the cost of glass production. For example, red/pink glass typically required gold for colouring, and that was cost prohibitive! ♥️

Thank you for watching! 💖 Your necklace sounds beautiful, I’d love to see that clasp - it sounds quite unique! Some thoughts: barrel clasps are generally said to have been invented c.1930s. A small black light is handy for thrift shopping...get a lot of strange looks sometimes, but that's part of the fun! Great research on glass, which sometimes eludes our collector's eyes when we are looking for the "GEMS" but overlook the "TREASURES" hidden in the simple things. The Pre-AB glass is very interesting and just to think how the inventor GLOWED, when that first hint of color appeared..would be an excellent movie! This was great and informative!

That’s a great question, Trina! From what I’ve seen and read, the older pieces are more translucent and the depression era milk glass takes on a thicker appearance. There are exceptions to every rule though, so it will come down to the piece and maker. ✨ Here is a link that nay offer some helpful tips to date yours: antiques.lovetoknow.com/Value_of_Antique_Milk_Glass 💖

A bit off topic, but I'm trying to learn the difference between glass and crystal beads. I thought crystal was a stone, but the crystal beads are really manmade glass made with lead? Or are some made with stones that are called crystal. Shesh.

Hi there! Thank you so much for watching and your question: rock crystal (quartz) is a natural material, but typically when people say “crystal” they are referring to crystal glass which contains anywhere from 2-30% minerals. Depending on the age of the piece this could be lead, or other minerals. Crystal (glass) is more durable & has a prismatic effect when light hits it, which can make it look “flashier”. Both crystal glass and rock crystal will scratch glass because they are harder. Keep those questions coming !! 💖

Great question! From what I have found online, it is considered safe to handle and it is not recommended to ingest food or drink held in uranium glass vessels. "The level of radioactivity varies by piece, ranging from less than 1 percent to up to 25 percent by weight, but there is no recognized danger to handling or using uranium glass" according to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, in a report issues in 2002. Here are two more sources: hps.org/publicinformation/ate/q13539.html and www.epa.gov/radtown/radioactivity-antiques Hope this helps! 💚
