Definitely 35mm a perfect size. A big demand for smaller watches. Forget the 38mm, to many of them around. The 35 mm will be the big selling point. Me included.

35 is perfect, love that it is off-trend, and true to Japanese aesthetic. Very very tempting!

Finally!!! A practical watch a woman can wear that doesn’t feel like a cast iron frying pan on my arm… I ordered one. Looking forward to it arriving.

The name is actually not weird at all. Old Smith refers to the english brand ‘smith’ that inspired the makers of this watch (and btw was worn by Edmund Hilary.)

😂you got Kuoe right and then you killed it saying Kyoto. Ask a Japanese how to say Kyoto too. Jokes apart, thanks for sharing this gem with us.

I bought their watch (Royal Smith) because it IS a 35mm, a rarity among the 38mms.

Called Old Smith because it was inspired by an old Smith's English watch, as worn by Hillary on Everest.

Im so tempted to buy this, with black dial. Can't decide between stick or numeral markers though. (Would not be interested at all it was 38 or bigger!)

Great looking watch. Is there any AR coating on the sapphire? Looking to order but am curious about this before I commit to upgrading to the sapphire.

Yes 38mm diameter would be better for me, I have a large wrist size. I like the fonts on the royal smith brand. I suggest have the 35 and 38 size would be great.

Super excited with 35mm! I do prefer the vintage sizing and it is unique as not many watchmakers offer that size.

Nice vintage size , this looks more like a Swiss style vintage watch to me. I've got 4 vintage Seiko dress watches & looking at these for the past 5 years I 've never come across a vintage Japanese watch with a small seconds, that's not to say there aren't any though! What movement is in this, I assume a Seiko or Miyota Quartz? Actual vintage Japanese (Seiko) watches are still really undervalued & you can pick up a Lord Marvel 5740, Weekdater or Skyliner for £100 to £300 in very good condition & that's where I'd put my money.

Yes vintage seiko is fantastic right now. I almost picked up a skyliner the other day but been saving for a KSK.

Anyone know what size battery this model takes?

I just picked this up lightly used. It looks way better in person than it does in photos or video. A very cute and charming watch, but definitely overpriced on their website. Buy used if you can.

For only 100 dollar more with an automatic and for 80-50 less this would be a really good buy! Why didnt they do acrylic with the cheaper option?? It would be more faithful and better, as you cant buff out scratches with mineral crystal. Will they do a automatic?? Im not bashing quartz though

NOOOOOO.... No 38mm! I'm so sick of the huge watch trend. I just got one of these and would not have considered it for a second if it was bigger than it is. I wouldn't even mind if it was a hair smaller.

The crown looks as if it might be a bit prone to catching on things.

Thanks for the video! I appreciate the Initial D reference, although I think a Casio G-shock might look more natural behind the wheel. Also, you’ve got the name of the watch maker pronunciation down, but Kyoto is pronounced like KEY-oto if that helps. Sorry to be that guy! 😅

@@FWIWDept I mean if you say KEY-O very quickly then it ends up sounding like KYO. But if you slow down the phonetics it definitely does not come out to KEY-OTO. That is definitely not correct lol

Not to tack on, but KYO is pronounced together in one syllable. Not two separate syllables.

35mm is better than 38mm for this kind of watch.

I agree 38mm is my preference for a dress watch. But always try in on as I found yesterday when I tried the 43.5 orange and white planet ocean and was shocked to find it wears great, even on my 6.5" wrist.

I'm in the 35mm, or smaller, camp. I hate the way modern watches have become so huge. My own watches include modern and vintage watches that vary from 31mm to 35mm. I prefer 31 to 32mm. Unless the wearer has very ample wrists, modern watches that are over 38mm look absurd to me. I hate them.

I vote for 38mm - as an alternative (but keep the 35, also).

Maaaan... I'd buy this if it was manual-wind or automatic, or at least a high-beat quartz. Or just get rid of the seconds hand entirely... that 1 tick per second is just too much of a dealbreaker for me.
