Vintage Hurricane Lamp Cleaning and Restoration timelapse

This a timelapse cleaning and restoration video of my grandmother's old vintage hurricane lamp. For the most part, instead of a full restoration, it was just really filthy and needed a good amount scrubbing and cleaning, but the rust, old oil, and grime came off eventually.

That lamp is absolutely beautiful. The green color is magnificent. I’d buy it without a thought. Great restoration.

Before you light the lamp you need to trim the wick. An untrimmed wick causes soot build up. Trimming should be each time you relight the lamp,

Next time try soaking metal parts in Dawn warm water then use an SOS pad and stiff brush for tight areas. Rinse well and add a little WD-40.light coat. Let dry very well.

The metal part on my lamp does not come apart like this one did. I soaked it and did the best I could with a Q-tip. I put some W-D 40 on it. I'm having a problem with the flame going down after I light it. I understand it might be a lack of oxygen.

Kerosene would be my choice of fuel. No need to buy premium fuel such as was shown in the video.

Yeah I absolutely should have for sure. I have corrected that though in the latest videos (the fan restoration), and they will all be demonstrated from this point.

That's because no restoration was needed. Good cleaning is all that was needed.

This one is just a table lamp like for decoration.. it doesn't take well to any kind of draft or wind. And you pretty much risk setting yourself on fire if you tried to walk around with it because the chimney on these aren't really held on by anything. You can get heat resistant lampshades for it though! 😁 Hurricane lamps are made to be used outdoors upwind in an actual hurricane, they're pretty hard to mistake because they're like fifty times more industrial looking
