Vintage Hot Wheels Cars! 1968-75 Redlines lot from 2018 Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals Convention

Ойын-сауық

This year, 2018, is the 50th Anniversary of Hot Wheels. Check out these Hot Wheels Redlines from the early years! Mattel may name modern series 'redlines' but when knowledgeable collectors talk about redlines, this is what we're talking about!
The prices I showed is what I paid. None of these are for sale.
If you were counting, one car got left out!
Custom Continental Mark III ($73) See it here:

or
/ 982714672599257091
I paid $15 each for the red and green Jet Threat models
Please note that when I mentioned that the Hot Wheels Cheetah is rare, the model is actually Python, not The Demon.
Loose car storage containers (Jammers), Tripods and other equipment I use (affiliate link)

In '68 I was 12 years old. I had all the Hot Wheels cars from '68-'70. Our family moved to a new town in '72 and now that I was in high school I thought I was too old for these. I gave them all away to the kid across the street before we left. Dang!

I'm quite satisfied with the video. Over 50 cars in less than 30 minutes. I hope that the intro showing the difference between original Redlines and modern straight-axles is beneficial to new collectors. It just depends on watch time and engagement to see if KZread picks up the video in their algorithm to help spread the information.

Fantastic! I didn't realize you had that many Noodle Heads Mark, I mean I knew you had a case you carried to races but a whole jammer?? lol Nice. I have a whopping 4 and only recently got a near mint Magenta that seems to be pretty fast. I like the idea of retiring or changing classes for redline racing. Seems like there was a local race a few yrs back and they had a scale and did weight classes like within 10 grams of each other. Can't wait to see that side kick on the downhill. Oh by the way the Cheetah was on the Python base not the Demon. Hey thanks for sharing I enjoyed very much.

About half a Jammer of Noodle Heads =) I know that the staff at the Conventions can't have too many categories because they take time but 'basics' get quite a few categories. Basic cars, Funny Cars/Hot Ones, VW Bus only, and a 'theme' race which is usually basics.

Another great video, I just got a mutt mobile, demon, deora, snake and mongoose in a job lot of cars I just bought cheap. I bought the lot mainly for the deora, but the other Hotwheels were a bonus, one of the better bargains I have bought. I was aware of some of the moving parts on the older HW, but not all of them you showed, its always good to know which ones have moving parts, as they are what I collect mostly. Anything that is all metal, or has moving/opening parts, I am interested in and I have learnt lots of info from your videos over the years I have been collecting. thanks.

You know the Demon also used the name Prowler , is actually Dave Steckley’s “Lill Coffin” built at Darrel Starbirds’ Kustoms , while Steckleys was an employee . It actually is a 1932 Ford sedan , highly kustomized and powered by an early Chrysler Hemi topped with 8 2brl strombergs . It must have gone like hell , and scared the crap outta anyone brave enough to drive it , hence the name . It became a huge success with the 1/24 scale Monogram plastic model kit . While Monogram kept the original Lill Coffin name , I’ve always wondered why Mattel changed it .

  • @racegrooves

    @racegrooves

Regarding the name change from Lil Coffin to The Demon, I'm sure it has to do with 'kids toys'. Parents might think it's morbid. Matchbox stopped selling their Hearse due to consumer complaints.

In 1975 I was 15 years old and by that time had a fairly decent collection of the Hot Wheels cars in a Hot Wheels case stored away in the bedroom closet.. Although at 15 you have other things on your mind instead of playing with toy cars, and now regret giving that's right giving my whole collection away to a friend of the family little boy that was around 8-9 years old. They probably would have been worth a fairly good sum these day's,but I did make a little boy happy at the time.

You have a few years on me but my story is similar. My cars got passed down to younger brothers, then to nephews. They got more play value and enjoyment than any amount of money could buy. Think about the hours and hours of entertainment that they provided rather than 'what could they be worth' nowadays =)

@@racegrooves I remember I was probably around 10-11 years old and went to spend a weekend at my aunt and uncles home. They had just one son that was 2-3 years older then me. He had a very nice collection of the Hot Wheels cars also. One in particular was the silver Boss Hoss Mustang I was looking over close. He said you really like that one huh, I said yes. He said I can get you one practically free, I have a extra mail order voucher here and all we have to do is fill it out with your name and address then mail it off. He said I"ll pay for the postage for you. About two weeks later it came in the mail to my home and I'll never forget that, I had my own BOSS HOSS Mustang. Thanks to my cousin Gary.

The Classic Cord at 5:05, the Custom Fleetside at 7:27 , the Lola GT70 at 12:57 and the Carabo at 16:50 are some castings i'd like to see get re-released someday. I was really surprised to find that the Ferrari 512 S shown at 15:32 was an actual Ferrari car! Not many people would actually make races with these (or at least some of these) so it'd be nice seeing these on the track.
