Vintage G.I.Joe Snow Cat and Frostbite restoration part 1 - Toy Polloi
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The first part in a new G.I.Joe Restoration project, the Snow Cat with Frostbite. This was very kindly sent to me by Grant and needs a fair bit of work to get it displayable again. In this first video I take the Snow Cat apart, give it a very good clean and get to work repairing the missile launcher section that had taken some serious damage.
Part two will be along as soon as I have found a few missing parts. Some are on order already, the rest I have to track down.
But already the Snow cat looks a whole lot better.

That’s impossible! No one had a birthday in the 80s! That would make you like 40 or 50 years old!

Except for those missile launcher tabs. Soooo fragile even when new.
Great video Dave Today I found a Tiger Cat version and I have the same problem with the missile box Your video will help me to repair it Each time I find a broken toy I come here and see how you repair it Thank you Dave for your videos they sure help
I found a rather incomplete one at a thrift store for $15. Was a steal. Fun restoration over a few months. Got lucky that nothing was broken except one ski was cracked but its ok. Loved watching this resto. ToyHax is 👌
Great fix on the missile holder that thing breaks all the time.
Can’t wait for the Cobra Wolf to be done as well, they look so good together on display.
This and the Awe Striker were my favorite land based GIJOE Vehicles
Loved the Snowcat!! My favoritest vehicle I ever had!
A salute to Sir Dave. I hope he can restore vintage gijoe figures.
One of the last vehicles I got as a kid and the first vehicle I restored when I started re-collecting Joes as an adult! Although, I just hunted for unbroken parts rather than repairing. I'm honestly surprised that the mount for the missile box was broken. The tabs on the box itself, sure, they're always broken (thrilled to see a fix for those!)...but I've never seen the mount broken and I've had probably 20 or 30 Snow Cat shells pass through my hands during my collecting.

I’ve seen a few broken the same way at one end or the other. I think when/if the clips on the missile rack break off, it tends to get misaligned so the jagged bit gets caught on the seam between the two halves of the mount, and if the kid then tries to tilt the rack using the dreaded “excessive force”, the leverage just snaps off that end of the front half of the mount 😕
No Legos were harmed....but we're thinking about it. 🤔

Don't worry, they will be in part two!
Awesome repair video learn a few tricks from watching it
This vehicle is a treasure. My first “big” vehicle from the line and I played with it till the wheel pegs broke off and then glued skis to it from my imperial shuttle.
This is kind of like watching Bob Ross paint happy little trees.
Just picked one up and piecing it together. Thank you sir.

Damn! This reminded me that I had this when I was small.
Cool vehicle, but I was always a bit annoyed that Hasbro never attempted to give it working tracks. It would have made it superb.
brilliant snowcat restoration toy polloi
You can undo the yellowing with submerging the parts in hydroperoxide and blasting them with uv lights. Really worthwhile I think.
Awesome 🤘 I had this as a kid
Another cool upcoming project
Hey Dave Wow it sure looks great all cleaned up. I used your lighter fluid idea on something the other, had nothing to do with a toy; however thought of it because of you.🙂 Take care and happy weekend

A new level of dirty. I didn't get, why you didn't put in the fourth missile until you get better ones.
One more thing I noticed about this repair. The slots in the T bar correspond to the fins on the missles the repair makes one of those slots shorter than it should be for when the rack is tilted. You may want to carve out the slot so the fins don't rub.
The take apart an wash part is so gratifying!
Joe stickers are so plentiful and hard to get off. Takes forever with the glue Hasbro used. Nice repair!
I was in the mood for one of my favorite restorations of yours Dave and I was not disappointed. I really love how perfect the repairs turned out on this awesome Joe vehicle. They really aren’t noticeable at all. Fantastic Work Sir!👍
The Arctic Joe and Cobra vehicles/characters were always some of my favorites. The Snow Cat was such an awesome vehicle. This one really cleaned up nicely. Can’t wait to see the rest of your restoration. Cheers!👍
#ToyPolloi, so far you have done justice to the Snow Cat. It's looking great already.
Brilliant stuff.
Great toy. Great clean up. Thanks Dave.
Great work as always.
what is funny is that in Transformers Energon toy line, there is a transformers called "snowcat", and guess what ? It is the same vehicle.
Great video as always, sir! The Snow Cat was one of my first Joe vehicles (along with the AWE Striker) and my all-time favorite 😁 A tip for removing round multi-tab pegs (like the missile mount), an appropriately-sized socket from a ratchet wrench can squeeze all four tabs inwards at once, making removal a breeze 😎👍🏼 Looking forward to Part 2!
28 min of restoration. Sweet
That white has come up even better than i was expecting Dave! Nice work on the gun mount, looking good!
I love your joe repair vehicles! Thank you so much!
Canopy might be able to be polished clear. Possibly its build up dirt and/or oxidization
Looking good!

Thanks. This one worked better than expected. More to come soon on this project.
Perhaps you are aware of this tip already, if you take acetone and mix with the harder plastic parts from gi joe figures or vehicles (ABS plastics) then you can get a sort of "slurry" mixture which can be used to fill in the repaired/spliced joints and make it quite seamless :) .. i do it all the time. You can even mix different color of ABS plastic with acetone in a small glass jar and get the color shade you need. use small jars with lids to expediate the slurry process, and it will keep for some time. And when it dries up you just add more acetone.
Be glad that the skies are in good condition .I still have my original snow cat from my childhood and a second one as well and the way that I repair my top missile rack w\is i use a rubber band wrap around the top turrent and it works looking forward to how you fix it and give a cooler way to fix mine .
That tool that you used looks like a metal to cut plastic cool .

I'm here watching this as I go through my joe toys that keep breaking and wondering how cheap a swap out would be if I found another part.
@toypolloi

Swapping parts is the simplest method, but often parts are hard to find which is why I try to show repairs if I can.
Did you ever do a part 2 for this one Dave? I'm not a GI Joe collector but this was great!

I’m guessing the weather hasn’t been great noticed you haven’t tried de-yellowing any toys lately

I don't do it often. Only in really bad cases. You will see me do it on a couple of projects coming up, but not this one.
That original missile launcher clip really makes me laugh, the rest of it is quite well reinforced but then is incredibly flimsy where it attaches. O_o??? There's even a lot of clearance space where you beefed it up underneath.
I would HIGHLY recommend NOT messing with those plastic clips! I can’t stress this enough.
@toypolloi

Which clips?
Great video Dave! For a steering wheel repro /3D prints are available on Ebay for the action force panther jeeps that will be the same scale. Could be a viable alternative if you cant find one for the snow cat?

@@toypolloi I've seen more with "rotten" tracks. Could be the age of the plastic and week point in the sculpt finally meeting.
I just finished restoring my third Snow Cat about two weeks ago. I decided no more after that one because I want to try something different. So what do I end up buying last night? A Tiger Cat. I have an illness.
why don't the two snow cat toys you had match up? Because they were made in different years maybe?

Check out the tool box section on toypolloi.com That is a list of the most common ones I use. Then just watch my videos as I show how I use them for various projects.
As the two guns (missile firers) seem to be snapped at the centre point can't you cut off the broken end of the second one you showed, turn it over, modify to fit and stick the two halves together?

I have a Lego steering wheel a full round one. This vehicle looks like it should have one of those half wheel ones. But I don't know that for sure. Still you should be able to find a lego one that could be modified of a decent size. The one I have looks to small to be any use to you here. Good luck.
