The 000-42 was introduced in 1938, but only 112 of the guitars were reportedly made before World War II forced the model to be discontinued in 1943. And that was that.
Well, until Eric Clapton used a 1939 000-42 to record his MTV Unplugged concert in 1992. The resulting album was a bona fide juggernaut that arguably kicked off the incredibly popular acoustic mania of the ’90s. The Martin 000-42 didn’t fare too badly, either, as it became highly prized-especially vintage ones, such as this 1939 model purchased from Guitar Center by none other than Grammy-nominated bluesman and guitar collector Joe Bonamassa.
“This 1939 000-42 is special, because they didn’t make a lot of them,” says Bonamassa. “It’s one of my favorite Guitar Center Vintage finds. Look at this custom-made ‘strap lock.’ Somebody obviously went into a hardware store in the 1940s, and just screwed this bolt into the neck. I wouldn’t suggest doing that, but I think it’s one of the coolest parts of this 000-42, because this little screw-eye bolt is about as old as the guitar itself.”

That really has a rich sound, so much so that you can practically see the trees it was made from.

I’m thinking that collectors that are not celebrities never get a chance at these gems. Joe just happened to get this 39 000-42 and his 41 000-45 from two different Guitar Centers. He must always be at the right place at the right time. Would be nice to leave some of these rare instruments for normal non- celebrities who can never buy these from these musicians because money is not a motivating factor and have no way of contacting them to even ask. I saw the “coming soon” on this guitar in IG. Problem is, it never came. I would have purchased this.

I’m glad Joe decided to buy this 000-42 as a gift for me👍 I’ll be sure to gift him my standard series 000-42 in return
I’ve had Martin Dreadnoughts for over 45 years. I got my first 000 Martin 3 years ago and I am amazed at how much fun they are and how the slightly smaller size makes it easier and more comfortable to play

Amazing find..love vintage guitars…thanks Joe…
One of my favorite pure sounds of a guitar. Like this guitar was the sound of my childhood riding in my grandmothers Jaguar listening to the unplugged album of Claptons.

Is Joe the new Clapton? I think so.
Love the guitar and Joe is the man. The guitar sounds amazing and was a great find.
That intro is amazing!!!
000 MAGIC!!!!!! Doesn't hurt to have Bonamassa's fingers doing the talking.
What find! Sounds amazing over the KZread compressed audio. I would love to hear the depth of that instrument in the room. Awesome guitar!
She's a beauty! 😎👍
sounds exactly like the clapton guitar. super cool!
One hundred years from now a hell of a lot of so-called modern acoustic guitars will have aged and the wood mellowed to the point where they have increased in value dramatically compared to their original list price.
Another beauty of a guitar, timeless quality, the tone? ah yes the tone. Bliss. This guy Joe is not a bad guitarist, maybe he should record some of his music.
There sits the dude that makes us all want to quit because we will never be close. Damn you, Joe.
Best thing about vintage guitars ....the smell !
I happen to have a few early black dot pins put back that will match the others if you would like to have one.
“I’m not much of an acoustic player”.. sure Joe, that clear 😀😀😀
First thing I thought of when hearing this guitar was Clapton's unplugged. Sounds duplicate. Gorgeous guitar
E un fuori classe❤
The triple O’s are the best. Go triple O!!

Waiting on that bluegrass album now Joe.

Sounds divine. What’s it cost?
You’re no Tommy Immanuel Joe, but you’ll do!😁🤘😎🇺🇸
Ha! $60,000 plus fire sale. We should all be this lucky!
And now, all together, slow down the video and learn, learn, learn...
"It's pretty much all original except for this particular string button (...) They took thousands and thousands of dollars off the price tag when I pointed it out." 😂 Not just a tremendous guitarist!
I OWN 10 MARTINS INCLUDING 000-42, BUT THE BEST SOUNDING MARTIN IN MY OPINION, IS THE M-36
The finish does not look right to me. Has it been oversprayed somewhere along the way?
Fantastic fingerstyle and bluegrass playing from Joe, who says he’s “not much of an acoustic player”. 😂

Inside joke for the vintage crowd. Hilarious....
Sounds like any other guitar except not very loud and no low end
"I'm not that much of an acoustic guitar player" ..then 3:28 starts ripping it
I would love to be that “not” very good!
Seems like he forgot to say the series of these videos is an extreme price point. That Martin is probably 100k and well the V about $500k. Cool stuff but failed to mention this

It's not a bad way to introduce Martin 000 guitars to the public. There's some history here, and a good professional demonstration involved when you do it this way. Obviously this one's out of my price range, but the intro models aren't, and you can find them used.
@revelry1969

@@ywtcc sure. Yes. But it’s a 100k guitar. And have you been into a guitar center recently? There is like no good vintage guitars. All the good stuff goes to Hollywood. So, This idea is it’s readily Available is not true. I also feel like my IQ drops 50 points when I am in a guitar center. Then when I leave it pops back up. Most GC blow these days….!
@Faded0811
Ай бұрын
@@revelry1969 No one in this video claimed that this instrument or those like it are “readily available”. You clearly don’t understand what this video is. It’s not meant to sell vintage guitars to people shopping in your price range. Not every video is meant to satisfy every audience and not every sales pitch is meant for you and your means.

@@Faded0811 Joe says come to guitar center to get instruments like this. Don’t be a sheep to the slaughter. GC blows. How many times have they gone bankrupt? Now Joe is shilling them. Weak!
Not a great acoustic player? Oh my gosh, then I must be trash then. 😮
Peg 🤣👍
Not a great acoustic player, eh? I'd like to see you do more acoustic music.
Yeah Joe, you’re a lousy acoustic guitar player. 🥴 If I could play that guitar only half as well as you played it, I probably would just drop dead on the spot with a big smirk on my face, knowing I’m dying a happy man. 😋🧡

He lost me at "string button thing".......🙄. Lol.
What average hard working guy can afford a 50,000 dollar guitar. ?

Is this the new CEO's marketing plan? Feature Joe playing all guitars that are so rare and expensive the average GC customer will never own one (including me) I love Joe, but this bunch of uploads on crazy expensive instruments is just silly IMO

@@dougdavis8986 Yo Dougie, I wasn't referring to Joe. Try to keep up. I was referring to the new GC CEO who in recent remarks said GC needs to go my super high end and cater to that demographic more so than the everyday player. Unless I'm mistaken, GC;s bread and butter is and always has been newbies to intermediate players, not the super high end crowd. FWIW, I know more about JB than most people. Joe's not your "average" GC customer.

Beautiful dark deep sound. ❤ Great awesome playing ❤ @joebonamassatv @guitarcenter
Joe is a liar. He's a great acoustic player. When you get to his level of musicianship the type of instrument is pretty much irrelevant.
