Vintage EMD's At Work On The Tazewell & Peoria Railroad!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In today's video, we follow TZPR 1352 as it collects it's car from the Tazewell & Peoria yard, and switches ADM's Hiram Walker Distillery. We also see two classic F7 Streamliners waiting to be interchanged. Get ready for beautiful industrial scenery, and very interesting railroad operations.

They load them indoors because they can ground the car, to protect from static electricity while filling and also because of a chance of lightning while filling outside. I remember that place very well as I had a lot of school mate's fathers that worked there and at the Pabst Grist mill which is gone now. Thanks again for some of the best Rail roading videos ever made!

I think that cars are simply grounded through the wheels to the rail whether inside or outside. Protection against lightning hitting a car is laughable at best. I helped unload flour from hundreds of cars with pneumatic outlets and never had so much as one hair lift in response to any static. We never used any extra grounding as none was required and flour is about as explosive a commodity as there is.

It’s sad to see a couple of F’s slowly disintegrating on a storage track, especially such a good-looking pair with a Southern graphic design using Northern Pacific colors. I’m going to dispense with the, “they should….” observation because I wouldn’t wish a task on someone else that I wasn’t prepared to do myself and saving an F from the torch would not be an easy or cheap proposition. A savior is needed with a lot of money and a lot of friends to make these work again. Replacing the engine with the thrown rod would be especially expensive but restoration/upgrading sure fires the imagination doesn’t it? An F-unit with a G engine and AC transmission would be so boss…..it would be the marvel of the railroading world (who needs the 4014?) and garner admiration from fans in the UK, Canada, Mexico and even Australia. And let’s have none of that tier-4 business on our boss locomotive either. Just a nice little 710G. Remember those cartoonish t-shirt graphics from the early 70’s of a Camaro with an outrageously massive engine, a turbo bigger than the engine block and a blower the size of a foghorn? Something along those lines I think…….
Tremendous video. Thank you for sharing. I am 64 years old and I’ve been a rail fan for 55 years and have never heard of this industry. You need to get your hands on a drone and film this thing from the air and your video will go viral. Thank you.
Appreciated this video. I used to work for the original TP&W and at one point was based out of E. Peoria Yard (since I was low seniority, I worked all over the place). I have since visited Peoria and once helped a switch crew that was shoving cars of corn into the ADM unloading track. They asked if I would close the switch after they cleared, to save them a long walk back to do that. I agreed and after the last car cleared, I closed the switch,or, as they say now days, re-lined it for the main. That was back in the ‘80’s or ‘90’s. They could get in real hot water, now! I was more than happy to help them! Incidentally, ethanol is made from corn (usually), methanol is made from wood, and isopropanol is made from propylene is a petroleum product. I remember that little so called beer can tank cars of isopropanol were shipped from Chicago, Exxon Chem. Co., to Mapleton, IL, Sherex Chem. Co., routed ICG Chenoa TPW. I grew up and went to school in Chenoa. Anyway, thanks for your videos!
Beautiful engines. Nothing like older units still in their prime.

Great video! SW10’s are very cool, unique locomotives! Thanks!
I saw 402 "helping" switch the autoracks at the plant i work at!

It is so cool to see a rail video about my home town
If ever there was a common substance that deserves the label, Handle With Care, it would be methanol. It is highly flammable and quick to react to even the most mundane ignition source. Methanol used to fuel both top fuel dragsters and fighter jets until the NHRA and the USAF determined it was too volatile for safe use.
Hearing about that cross-buck being from waaaaaay back in the seventies makes me feel so old! I was in college in the seventies 🤣😂 Great video! I love your narration
I live in Peoria. As a matter of fact, I pass by that plant on my way to work.

If you need a trip out to NC,(with a good reason) I got you covered. The CLNA branch line between Rocky Mount and Spring hope, NC, and passes through Nashville. It’s main customers are Purdue and Braswell family farms. Only two trains a day, Mon. thru Fri. One in the early morning from Springhope, and one in the evening, from Rocky Mount.

Gotta say, one of the most interesting switching videos I've seen. I hope a wealthy group buys and saves those F units. Once they're gone - they're absolutely gone. Can't have Classics like those under a scrapper's torch.

Wow, so happy this wasn't a short!! I have lots of family in the area and in my riding days I would go through Peoria often just because it's was such a hub for grabbing different mainlines in different towns. Peoria has definitely had it's ups and downs. But who doesn't love a river through downtown!
Great vid and cool shortline and neat operations
Were you a conductor at one point? I was and your assessments at 7:52 are right on. It a dangerous job, hyper alert is a must on the ground.

Oh god! Please don't scrap those F7s! Donate them to a museum!
13:28 you mention coal. The facility (now owned by BioUrja Renewables LLC, formerly ADM) hasn’t used any coal fired process in a decade. Barges are alcohol or feed.
Ive lived in peoria or tazewell counties my entire life and learned a lot i didnt know. I enjoy boating on the other side of this plant as you can see a lot of the other rail lines in action.
I have a high school classmate that used to be an engineer there. He says it was a fun place to work.

Great video! I love short line switching. 😊 Would you be willing to do a video about 3-step protection, when the conductors are working in between the cars?
It would be a shame to see those streamliners scrapped they should be preserved at a museum somewhere
are we not going to talk about the end?

Is that T&P railroad, Texas and Pacific? If so, my grandfather was assistant superintendent of that railroad and retired after world War II from T&P as a dispatcher. During World War II, he was in charge of all European rail activity. Col. Alva Ogg

About how the T&P have to run multiple trains a day, The same thing goes here with California Northern (CFNR) It is another “shortline” but All the tracks are all actually owned by Union Pacific because The line is EX: SP and I see trains every weekday and horns too! It’s very rare to see a train running on the Line on a weekend, Here is one of my videos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2Fpl6yzndabpaQ.htmlsi=tYtEwAIAjdan30of This is a video where they are going back to Woodland from Davis after they picked up the rail cars that UP Had dropped off.
