Is there any way to make this animation procedurial, with editable text and less work?

not really, the way we animated the width of the font can't really be procedural, procedurial animation won't give you this many styles and effects together. but there are other type animation can be made with editable text, check out the class in the description where we explore many animation options.

Hypothetically if you connected the letters to nulls and had a line somehow control the ends of each letter to match this animation it could work and be procedural.
