Those athlon xp processors are quite good as workhorses! There's an hp desktop with that same cpu at my parent's home. It still has 2gb ram and an onboard 128mb (shared) GeForce 4 gpu which made up for a solid school, business and multimedia/HTPC system. I kept firing It up every now and then up until 2017, having Ithe XP os updated with POSready patches thanks to a registry hack. I never tried gaming on it because back in middle school my dad forbid my siblings and me from playing -that's why we had a playstation and a TV on our bedroom! Once I entered college, my laptop was way more capable than the aging Athlon XP so I never really took that chance with the tower. You brought me back some memories from 2003-2008 :-)

That 754-system is a very nice and kinda rare find (if it's working though). Could be used for Win98, XP or even some DOS-experiment. And really hope you can get this 9600 to work.

Agreed! I'm going to be doing a full restore on this system in a video - hoping we have a positive outcome! I can't ever remember seeing a burnt label on a GPU fan bearing label before. @@TheRetroRecall First, I had a CD-ROM, then I added a CD-RW, then I replaced the CD-ROM with a DVD-ROM, then the CD-RW with a DVD-RW. Now, I just like to carry two DVD-RW, for "reasons". First reason, was that my primary drive in my last build was a Samsung with Lightscribe, but not good for quality scans, so I paired it with a Liteon. This pair was going to go forward, but then I found one of my dream drives on ebay, a Liteon IHAS 224 (B) which crossflashed to a 624 for ALL the features. I still paired it with a different drive for diversity in reading iffy discs... a GSA-H55N from a junkbox lot winning the read-off on a test disc that I'd created a while back and not looked after at all. Yep, IDE/PATA drive in a modern SATA system driven by a Jmicron card, but I think in the current rebuild, I'll drop the card and try an adapter

Crazy to think these computers from the late 1990's/early 2000's are now vintage machines. Yes these were like the big deal of that era. Now Computers that look like they were from the early 2000's are mentioned as "Home Servers." with no CD Rom or 3.5" Diskette dock but with USB ports and Hard Drives, SATA Drives or SSD's that are in the Terabytes.
