Banana Flower Pop-up Card. Inspired by Maria Sibylla Merian's illustration work, I decided to create a series of pop-up cards featuring her artwork. She was both a naturalist and an artist.
What I found particularly interesting is that, although her goal was to illustrate the life cycles of insects, she ended up creating stunning botanical illustrations. I was so captivated by the beauty of the flowers that the insects seemed to be somewhat lost in their splendor. One of her most notable works is the book "Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium," where she documented the life cycles and metamorphoses of insects in Suriname. This illustration showcases a banana plant with its flower.
