Vintage Altered Book: Collage & Layouts Step-by-Step
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today I have two more layouts in my latest altered book, a vintage Italian bankbook. I build up the pages from blank to complete, layer by layer, and talk about collage, composition, and a variety of mixed media techniques. And butterfly pockets!

Agree; delightful ephemer is all around us ... and what finds you is gorgeous
Ok Kelly, I know that I'm a broken record, but I always love and swoon over your videos and creations! I've always been totally drawn to old cemetery statues, and this one you copied onto tissue is one of the best! It's so clear. Well, every page you have created thus far in this nifty little book, look amazing, Kelly! I want to end by telling you something you already know, but have to mention it anyway. I just LOVE how you really feel your pages and the combinations that you create! "That one doesn't feel right there, or these two aren't inner acting together", Its quite a lesson for me. I don't usually put that much thought into my pages, I just go by if the page and or colors seem to work together and if it gives me goosebumps! So I DO appreciate hearing how you look at, and your thinking process with these pages! Sorry this is so long. But your always rockin' it my dear! Thank you for another great lesson.
That print on tissue is beautiful. Thank you for giving me yet another idea

Hi Karen. Printing on tissue paper is amazing but you can also use store-bought tissue paper. If you check in stationery and book and gift stores, usually by the birthday party section, you will often find patterned tissue paper that can then be rough torn and glued to make cool backgrounds. Keep me posted and let me know how it goes!

Katie, I don't know why she is so, uhm...tense? I know it is just a trick of the camera but I wouldn't like to get on her bad side in a dark alley. Although she does rock that gingham. 😎Kelly

@@BookandPaperArts Haha!! Yes she does rock that gingham! She does look like she is fuming about something! Definitely p*ssed off!
Thank you, your style of creating art speaks to what I am trying to do as I work.

Hello Kelly, yes patience and watchful eye does finally deliver. The thrill of the hunt is very satisfying. Thank you for sharing your lovely pages. Always excited to get a video from you.
I am having so much fun taking your new course! My friend has a camera, and whn I am finished with the projects, I will send some pictures.I am working on the mini journal, and haven't prepped it yet, so it will be a while, but I had to tell you how I was enjoying it.

Hi there, Ann. Thank you for touching base and letting me know. Boy, those minis are fun, no? I look forward to seeing the photos when you get further down the road with your project. Keep me posted, please! Kelly
Such beautiful layouts! It’s indeed difficult to find some things in some places. Where I live, there’s only one secondhand store and it has very few things. It took me months to find sheet music, and it’s photocopy pages! But I was so happy! Books with images are also very rare, unless it’s books with animal photos, the shiny ones, like magazine pages ❤️💛💜🖤🧡♥️💗💚💙
Excellent pages! I hope the little tintype boy will find a home in this book, too. He looks like he could do with some company. 🤗

Centi, I have had that lad for years and I am sure you understand, it is hard to find the PERFECT place, as once he is in place he is there for a long time. I do really like that small size - so much in such a tiny square.

I so agree! And love his sturdy little hat! ;)
What a great idea, an image on tissue on this type of underground. Which is great on it's own

I'm glad we get to see you work some more layouts in this book. Very interesting.
I found a beautiful book in a charity shop called 'spirit of the forest' got stunning photos in it the photography is a Christian too and can see where he was led by the Holy Spirit to get the shots that he did. I'm not a big pocket fan myself but nice work 😊

Lucky find! Nice
Most libraries have sections of all types of books for sale. My local library offers them for 50 cents to a couple of dollars each. A library in a city nearby has a large book sale once a year. Just another great source for ephemera. Like several have mentioned.... it's an ongoing treasure hunt.

Hi Neva. For some reason that I haven't figured out even after living in the UK for 20 years, big, glorious library booksales are not a thing and it drives me bonkers. We do have a lot of weekly flea markets called car boot sales and there we sometimes find treasure. My local second hand bookstore has a 99pence wall and I check it out twice a week. I also trained the staff there to CALL ME when they get old, messy books rather than throwing them away. 😮Whew! I hope you are having a creative week! Kelly

Hi Kelly, I’ve been going through all your videos and have learned so much…thank you ! I now have the courage to try drawing in my journals. How do you feel about using spray adhesives for bonding pages, adding ephemera etc.?

Hello and welcome, Janet. You have made me happy as I feel My Real Job is to encourage everyone and anyone to be bold and just get making, especially if it means telling our internal editor to get lost, or at least speak more quietly. So well done you, I mean it. As for spray adhesive, the only ones I tried (way back in the day) didn't hold in the long run but maybe there are better ones now. Other than than, I would try them. How about you? Kelly
