i've got one of those. my granpa gave it to me years and years ago. still have it along with a ton of other survival stuff from back in the day.

1st time I am seeing this, MAY 2024....THIS IS VERY COOL AND A GREAT REVIEW Can't believe how good the fruit candies looked, they still had their appropriate color...unusual

Awesome I really love the documentation of these rations. Condition is great. H20 would be awesome. Perfectly fine and safe to drink. I would have drank that water. Those jelly bars look edible. Thanks for the great review of this awesome vintage ration.

Glad you didn't, it was a little nostalgic for me, I remember those days,grew up with Civil defense, that was big in 50's-60's, in fact, I had to go through some CD sites, that later had been forgotten, lot of things were bad!, but today,no one now-a-days has a clue, if mentioned!!.

Amazing that water is as clear as it is after all these years. Very cool kit.

Great review. The only thing that is extremely dangerous and toxic is the canned water. You will notice the seal that runs vertically from top to bottom on the inside of the can, that is a solder seal which contains lead. Over time the seal will leach lead into the water and contaminate it making it highly toxic. Solder seals were used up until sometime in the 1980's when they finally stop using them. It would be interesting to see what the results from a water test strip indicate if you ever open another can of water. The survival biscuits are likely edible. I've eaten some from the early 1960's that were from civil defense that had a stale smell and bland taste. I think that's just how they are and they have no salt which adds to the lack of flavor. Just add peanut butter and they should be fine. A lot has to do with how and where they were stored.

​@@MorettiPyrotechnicsLLC I figured that was the reason you didn't drink a big glass of it. lol. I have seen videos where people tasted it and then drank it. I cringed watching. If you open any more canned water from the 1950's though the 1970's could you test it with a test strip? It would be interesting to see how much lead is in it and what else it may be contaminated with. Thanks for the reply.

cool review of the 50's survival kit

Very interesting. I would appreciate if you could reply with the link to where you found the information about the manufacturer. I am an intern at a museum about the Cold War the Diefenbunker in Ottawa we have this artifact and I need to find when the company was established and when it died.

Later water cans have a plastic bag of water in them.. I have several from Vietnam from '72... Same can and lettering

These don't have bags in them. Just a straight up can. That's good to know though probably held up better.

I have several others (1962) that are non-bagged, same 12oz size OD green color can and text style font, but state: PROPERTY OF US GOVERNMENT CONTENTS APPROX 10.0 OZ TO 10.5 OZ EMERGENCY DRINKING WATER N.Y. 73668-62 MIL-W-15117B ASSOCIATED PROCESSORS INC. WILLIAMSPORT, PA. Embossed end of can stamped: 104 11A62 (Assumed November 1962 and 'A' probably the day code or canning production line at Associated Processors?)

@@MorettiPyrotechnicsLLC Yes, your kit defiantly pre 1963 when Zip Code started and not Zone Code used between 1943 to 1963 in city address. Smaller cities with only one zone no number was used between city and state.

Thats a really cool find. I dont know if I would have tried it though but it was fun to watch.

Now that's what mre should be today get the food but it comes with drinking water to drink i hate it in mre's they give so much food but no water for drinking at least that old one came with 9 cans for drinking that's what should be in all mre's not old water but you know fresh canned water for drinking it would be nice

I agree unfortunately combatants only.get tablets to purify and the weight is over bearing for them so it's a minimum supplies thing.

@MorettiPyrotechnicsLLC you know the kicker is is that they assume that the person has water to use the tablets and other thing those tablets are dangerous to use if the person doesn't know how to use them that's why they should put pouches of water in there instead

This is vintage, agreed sir. Interesting items. I enjoy watching someone doing different items , or rations. The only ration, I ever tried, that had drinking water, was the German civilian ration, bought from Foreignmre.com. It makes good sense. If you decide to do drawing, I would love to add this can, to my collection. H2O , to go. I love the cans sir. Food items, survived as well as they could, for the age friend. Save the Hershey's wrappers, or bars. Awesome trading material. I am surprised the Hershey's bars , were not powder. They usually are. The one you opened, looked awesome to me. Save the wrapper! I personally think, you have A winner there !! Great ration and review, Peace, John.
