Hi, I directed the RTKI movie. As a longtime fan of yours Vinny, it's a true honor to have you watch the film alongside the DKC cartoon episodes. This really made my night! In case anyone needed answers for Vinny's questions: 1. Our short took 2.5 years to make. This started with Curse of the Crystal Coconut (the Alestorm cover) as an audience test, then caught attention to the band to hire Alex with their music video P.A.R.T.Y. (there are some reptilian cameos in there...) and then got him the opportunity with Gloryhammer's "Keeper of the Celestial Flame". Alex was a very busy man and was still pushing to have this released around the time of the Mario movie. The whole process was an adventure and one of the greatest experiences of my life. 2. We had to go through ACTRA (the Canadian acting union) to get Ben, Adrian, Ron and Richard to reprise their roles. It took a bit of time with negotiations but we went in paying them their standard rates as well as our other voice actors. The agency was very supportive and patient in our process and the in-person recording sessions with the actors were amazing! The original voice actors loved the script and it meant so much they trusted the story and music we made to bring out what K. Rool and the Kremlings meant to us. 3. Gianni was involved in our promo teasers/trailers in that part of the credits. Our usual campaign with our "Bootlegs" (fan films) was to have it styled like a Toonami bumper. Gianni did our version of T.O.M. and came out sublime. 4. Tom Schalk is a great collaborator and a phenomenal friend, deserving all the recognition! I purposely wrote the ukulele intro for him and his Klubba was awesome. I don't really write on social media often but just want to give my continued thanks to Vinny for all the amazing content he makes and for giving our video the light of day to others. And to the rest of those fans old and new, thank you for being an amazing community. Donkey Kong fans are the best! ❤

So, if you Google Leo Luster, the first result is a Holocaust survivor of the same name. I doubt they had any idea, but that's wild to me.

So in case no one ever said it in chat, practically the entire music video from K. Rool emerging from the shadows to the end before the stinger was all in K. Rool's head. It's heavily implied Klump and the others only found him _after_ he set the basement on fire, as evidenced by one of the crates saying "K. Rool's stuff (Fire Damage)". Also, K. Rool's full name being Keith Krudd Rool was a reference on how Krudd was a prototype name for Rool and how they joked the K in his name could stand for something mundane, like Keith.

Despite the budget cuts, one detail this season has over season 1 is that the face expression are lot more cartoony and expressive. Perhaps they needed to be due to the new lack of textures. 4:58 Klump's face here is so adorable and the animators didn't have to do that.

Speaking of faces, even taking into account the really *weird* body structure DK has especially with that giant ass of his (I've seen fanmade fetish models that are built identically to him in this show), I think characters like Candy Kong, Funky Kong or even Eddie prove he wouldn't look so uhh, "unique," if he just had teeth. Funky's are the ideal ones since theyre just like the square game ones, but even DK reuses Eddie's triangle ones sometimes and I like it. Even if I wasn't biased just cause I like those teeth, it'd still make him look less weird especially paired with the mocap animation. I know the renders and DKC didn't give portray him with teeth so that was like the style at the time, but still.

I can speak a little bit on Donkey Kong Country's later animation. Obviously I'm just an observer, I didn't work on the show myself, but I do have some industry experience to tell the difference on a project transferred between studios. It depends on the project and in some cases assets can be reused if they're given but have to be reconstructed to work in the new studio's pipeline. The new pipeline also doesn't guarantee they'd be able to meet as much quota as the other depending on server and tech speeds. With DKC in particular, whoever the new studio was did a fair enough job rebuilding rigs into a keyframe animation pipeline. Remaking rigs & materials out of assets that were originally designed to be pushed through fast in the mocap system. Full keyframed lipsync too, just watch one song each from earlier and this and you'll see. The likely issue was that they were being pushed to do more with the same schedule as the old. So animators were at least free to approach their scenes however they liked but the crunch on them must've been rough in 1998, so any clipping and any other rendering mistakes were likely unnoticed.

Its actually both correct and wrong. If you live in America, yes it is 2 seasons. However, in the show's original French format, it WAS 3 seasons. Seeing as in the video itself the person is overlaying English over very obvious not English, the person who sent this in is probably from Europe, where it is 3 seasons. I did not grow up watching this show but kid me would’ve gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it and especially those songs, they have no business going as hard as they do, and the surprise of Vinny checking out Return to Krocodile Isle was pleasant, we get him react and gush over it, especially the fact that they brought back all the old actors for it too. I wish Vinny could check out the F-Zero and Kirby Animes the same way he checked out the Donkey Kong cartoon.

I hope Vinny can do the same for the music numbers of the Super Mario World cartoon.

I added this to my sleep playlist without knowing what it was then I somehow slightly woke up during the night thinking "what... what the f.... is that.... is that Lester singing??? omg. I love Lester...... *falls asleep*"

8:00 why is the fur noticeably a different asset than the arm, like I saw the back of the fur 3d model in the bottom middle of the screen

Man I clearly haven't seen a single episode of season 3 because holy moly is the animation uh.. completely different... and the models are blendshape warping like crazy, and the composting has an insane amount of errors I guess I never noticed in the main show. (I have literally been in these situations where someone exported the alpha fucked up or the render is going in and out of depth of field and now I have to hand by hand compensate for making sure the edges aren't blurred. Not the case here 2:58 ) I guess it's harder to notice when the models are flapping around at full mo-cap speed and shifting around by the sub-pixel. You can literally see the topogtaphy tearing at the seams on close ups. The overall render quality is actually, really REALLY REALLY good for when it came out though, maybe thats why I can really notice everything that's broken and different I guess these are like?? DVD rips from a re-release or something? They did a rerelease right They say the songs didnt suffer but then we hear probs the worst offender of pitch correction at 3:19 I've ever heard and beyond lol . BUT STILL some heat ngl Also something else here is interesting, I'm really seeing evidence of heavily 2D animated Layout or just the 3D team going by the storyboards quite literally as we see them attempt to break the models for cartoon antics (to mixed results). This makes me think if there's some kind of 'lost well-animated 2D layout reels' especially for season 3 . end animation neurodivergent rant, onto the show

Is using blendshapes / shape keys for facial animations that strange? I was under the impression that using them on different segments of faces was a pretty standard way of animating, provided you've planned out the specific deformations and combinations well.

If you look at DK's nose, you can see his nose holes are lower than they should be. It makes it look like he has a duck bill mouth. They didn't fix it for quite a few episodes either.

damn, the style, the pizazz, the raw talent on display in that Return to Crocodile Isle project, it puts modern animated films (that don't involve cats or spiders) to shame! I wish I'd watched it way sooner!

Holy shit, Return to Krocodile Isle was amazing, the animation, the music using the trumpets that sound like DKC2 trumpets, all of it was amazing. The entire thing just makes me sad we don't get amazing DK games like DKC1/2 anymore.
