You know NFTs are well and truly cooked when Vinny doesn't make a "MY APES ARE GONE" joke when the Ape Escape ad showed.

I miss old magazine ads. They were batshit insane but always left an impression on you.
I’ve been enjoying these types of segments that Vinny has been putting out recently, more so than some of the gaming stuff if I’m being honest. Maybe I’m just getting old

Been waiting for this segment for (I think a year) since vinny mentioned he wanted to put it together. I remember spending hours and hours reading through old magazines from the 80s-90s gifted to me by my grandfather, (and my own from the 00s), late at night on weekdays, fantasizing about all those old games one day I'd like to collect. I'd get online on my Wii and use the internet browser and YT channel to find reviews and let's plays of them. What a different time!

There's another part of this from like 6 months ago if you didn't know I'm glad he did part 2 though. The other one was like the prototype for this I guess before it had the magazine madness name
30:30 yeah they're counting the bonus rooms and the 4 animal buddy token bonuses to make it 111.
50:38 "Wow, Squidward, you're choking!"
55:03 “she has your smile” that’s HIS kid.
@12:35 I knew this one had to be in this video. It's forever burnt into my mind as the most "How Do You Do, Fellow Kids?" ad ever, even before that became a meme.
90s and 2000s ads were such an era I wonder why not only that was the grunge and edge era but also the gross out era like that one Earthbound ad that had the stinky scratch and sniff
@aortaplatinum

Counter-culture gone mainstream, the 80s were largely very safe and homogenized so the 90s were a lot edgier because people were sick of shit like Full House. Then companies started picking up on that in the late 90s and advertising to appeal to that mindset. The hopeful poppy colorful futuristic Y2K look of like Jet Set Radio was a thing for a couple years but 9/11 sent attitudes right back into edge and angst. Sociology is neat.
this is technically retro commercial chaos
Vinny definitely needs to check out gaming magazines that aged poorly or were counterparts to failed consoles. Like the Official Dreamcast Magazine especially is soul-crushing when you see just how much stuff for the console was cancelled, they don't even have a proper final issue, it just ends despite the crew implying [with hindsight] that they knew it was so over
@aortaplatinum

@stanbrule9357 I know, that alone would have saved it. But it's impossible for there to be a universe where SEGA made all the same stupid decisions AND put a DVD drive in the Dreamcast- they WANTED to but straight up didn't have the money to even begin production due to the Saturn eating shit outside Japan. They were selling it at a loss it's entire life.
We need more magazines, like these, in stores again. The weirdness and absurdity in some of the art styles are something I like, and really miss.

With how censored and monitored the internet has gotten over the past 15 years or so, we're probably going to see print and physical media pick up again as the chosen medium for niche, weird, controversial stuff. Like people trading homemade burned Blu Ray discs like how they traded weird indie VHS home movies in the 80s and 90s
@maw9406

@@aortaplatinum i don't think print is ever going to pick up as the chosen medium sadly. printing and distribution are two massive hurdles you have to jump through and they're much larger than the hurdles associated with making completely independent online media. even if the development of the internet as a whole continues like it's been for the past 15 years, it's still hard to imagine that print would ever come back as a majority medium. i liked your sociology is neat comment btw
I still have all my old gaming magazines, Just wish I didn’t cut them up as a kid…. It’s like a puzzle Ed: plz make this a thing, it’s so hard to find old gaming magazines for cheap.
One issue of Wizard Magazine had an ad for “Sailor Moon and the 7 Ballz” not knowing what that actually was. I actually had that issue of Wiz.

46:02 Average craigslist bassist
I just lost a huge box of old Nickelodeon Magazines in a flood. Love the video, even if it reminded me of that.
8:22 Really looks like the Mr. Bungle cover. Mr. Bungle was a big influence on the band Korn.
52:26 Ganon is a pretty big enemy hog. Wizpig, too. That image reminds me of the Blood and Honey version of Piglet, honestly.
26:26 sigma monkey vs virgin drill sergeant.
A time-travelling duo encountered something/not things like this at 49:49 while at the edge of the universe. "My arms are too long." I also remember 1996, besides some good videogames it was not all that great.

What's great about the Deathtrap Dungeon ad is that both Tomb Raider and DD were published by Eidos.
Would love to see Vin react to more weird PS2 ads, especially the TV ones

Deathtrap Dungeon was legit one of my favorite PS1 games lol. It's an RPG dungeon crawler that controls bit like Tomb Raider.. you play as either a warrior dude or the chick from the ads. Certainly not the greatest of game, but the art direction and atmosphere were pretty awesome. Actually think Vin would appreciate it.
5:45 That book became a cartoon.
One Rayman ad i saw was just a bald man named Ray. lol
That EIDOS tagline was way ahead of its time! Think about how well it would fit for modern publishers: Activision: You've been warned.

Good new segment
I think the point of the Monkey Ball ads in Japan was to lean into the game's difficulty kind of like how they did for Dark Souls when it first came out.
"STomething" @ 1:19 lol
Videogame Maggie is so underrated.
I remember once writing 1996 and thinking the year 2000 was so far away that we would never get there.
New segment just dropped
That's a wild thumbnail Vin.
that thumbnail? tekno kore - pum ( dj dubblo )
I've been collecting old videogame magazines (PSM and the like) so this is my new favourite segment...!
If you thought the print ads for Corn Nuts were wild, you should hear the radio jingle.
Taken from IGN guide of Donkey Kong Country, circa 2003: Q. How many levels are there in the game? A. There are 33 main levels, 67 bonus levels. There's also four animal bonus levels and seven boss levels, bringing the total to 111 levels.
Gather round for another segment of being advertised to for an hour 😁
Second ad and Im already nostalgic
The thumbnail looks like something Cyriak would make.
only just started the video i really hope that one rayman 3 ad is in

Some of the Rayman ones were nuts. Crash Bandicoot too. I miss old magazine ads. They had no off switch.
I grew up reading the Psycho Butt books... they were surprisingly really interesting and emotionally heavy, and I still have them!
Oh man I remember that Blockbuster weenie ad.
I wish we had more Chrono Cross and Spyro OST in the background.
i feel so dumb whats the song playing during the 7:18 corn porn bit, i swear i was just listening to it somewhere recently but im blanking so hard
I think it is already a thing, I am convinced
45:27 Lmao I was not expecting fucking Wattie Bunchan on a Vinesauce Stream LOL For those who don't know, he's the lead singer of Punk Rock band "The Exploited" which is considered one of the most influential Hardcore Punk bands of all times, they're credited with introducing the Mohawk hairstyle into the Punk aesthetic. And he's there just holding an armadillo...lol
Does anyone know where Vinyot got these ad images from? I want to share some and sure I can screenshot but I'd like better resolution if possible. xo
I read The Day My Butt Went Psycho when I was younger.
I recently played Rayman 2 again, it's really held up
I remember that Duology of books, The Day my Butt Went Psycho, read it in sixth grade.
sony loved their weird ads and i have no idea why
What version of Donky Kong under water song???
I sometimes miss running a Tumblr about these things.
I had gotten the first year of Nintendo Power when I was a kid. I stupidly threw them away. Then I found them at a yard sale and stupidly threw them away a second time. At least I kept the Final Fantasy guide issue this time.
If you need a new band name "Butt Piranhas" is available
Anybody knows what game is song from 32:20 from? Sounds like a mix of Chrono Cross and Donkey Kong

24:34 you know whats funny about this clip if you zoom into that nintendont controller it instantly becomes another thumbnail or art if you just change small detail like getting closer or doing something at an angle infinite zooms would be the trick but nah i want to have limited amount of pixels without using tricks and voxel graphics but yet again having pure 24K resolution and a PNG file thats a gig size probably would be a waste anyway

Vinny making fun of anti drug ads while his self admitted heavy cannabis consumption during his teenage years is more than likely what causes his chronic depression is pretty ironic.
@Pleasestoptalkingthanks

Cannabis doesn’t cause depression by itself lol. And doing drugs doesn’t make anti drug ads any less absurd/ineffective.

@@Pleasestoptalkingthanks Cannabis disturbs the brain's chemistry as much as physically destroying it, and has been proven to be a cause of depression a while ago. Get your facts straight instead of spreading disinformation. Also, despite the fact that some of these ads can be funny, they address a real life issue that a lot of people (like you) undermine way too much because they are misinformed, thanks to the legalization activists and their lies.
