1:12:50 Sad that Vinny was unable to fully process Ken Penders Lore in the chat, so much of the stuff he got away with in the Archie comics is a gold mine of madness and cursed knowledge. Perhaps some day we can have someone try to explain to him the fact that Knuckle's dad shoved him into the microwave as an egg, the weird amount of N*zi and Holocaust allusions in the Knuckles comics, Knuckles becoming Jesus for a bit, or that time he made a character die of LSD poisoning as mentioned in 1:01:16 . I am very glad that the IDW Comics are actually pretty good nowadays, though I do miss the insanity (mixed with absolute boredom, because Penders never really knew what to do with a setting after he built it up) that was early to mid-Archie.

There were some pretty fun arcs in the Archie Sonic comics, with some stuff in there offering higher highs than the IDW comics have offered so far. Some of the madness was entertaining, but I do not miss all the nonsensical insanity and the lowest lows that one has to trudge through to get to the highs, though. Penders having to do some issues nearly entirely by himself, and how he at one point was having to deal with the death of his father, was how we got material that I'm pretty sure killed some of my brain cells from reading it.

I found some info on the game from a google reverse image search. The game was apart of Really Amateur Game Expo (RAGE) 2009, which was a parody of SAGE. I cannot find any actual download links however (The actual RAGE website's domain expired a while ago, and web archive isn't helping), but i'll try to see if i can unearth something

chat was trying SO hard to tell vinny various bullshit Ken Penders lore during the Lara-Su game, yet I never saw anyone mention that the LSD overdose comic in the schoolhouse quiz was also a Penders comic. Anyway yeah Penders comics were both illustrated and written in a truly grotesque manner, and Penders's lawsuit is the reason why the only echidna character we see is Knuckles (the others were technically created by Penders under unclear contract agreements) and why there will probably never be a Sonic Adventure 3 (again due to inclusion of Penders elements, and if there ever IS a SA3 it won't resemble SA1/SA2). Lara-Su is, according to Penders canon, Knuckles's five-greats granddaughter (or something, the generational gap is an estimation), a product of incest on some level (the family tree is more of a tumbleweed and is needlessly complex), and named after the infamous fanfic trope character Mary Sue. Zero self-awareness from Penders, btw. If you feel like further consuming such cognitohazards, you could probably ask Mike or Imakuni about Penders (and get them riled up in the process). And now you have a better understanding of why us Sonic fans are "Like That"! 🙃

Can anyone explain to me what it is about sonic as a franchise that makes it attract so much oddity? Like I don't know of any other IP in the world that has such a large amount of infamous content

I think the Archie Comics version of Sonic are a bit of fault to this as you see many of their fans reference that way much more and takes more inspiration from it with their OCs and recolor ideas.

The fandom is split between American, European and Japanese fans and some of them are very attached to the franchise. If you combine that with a persecution complex due to Sonic being considered bad nowadays and only having relevance through nostalgia and people laughing at weird Sonic fans. Some Sonic fans being furries and being attracted to characters like Vanilla and Rouge adds to the strangeness as well.

The Sonic Fleetway comics actually did have a weirdly existential comic about an Old Sonic who was supposedly form the future but it was actually a clone that was imprinted with false memories and was going to die soon so it sacrifices itself once it realizes what it really is

I didnt expect to see an appearance from the man with the plan with a pen in his hand, ken penders

Vinny not knowing anything about Ken Penders going into this, then slowly piecing it all together and coming to realizations about him makes this so much better

After all these years he still hasn't figured out how to disable Sticky Keys

The Sonic fangame/romhacking/modding community exhibits a degree of shitposting ability and fervor that approaches that of the classic Doom modding scene, which is impressive considering that until relatively recently Sonic games weren't PC centric titles that were designed from the ground up to be easily modded like Doom was. Truly it is a magnificent (read bewildering) sight to behold.

I enjoy watching these vids, not for the "reactions" of Vinny getting jumpscared and stuff like that, but because there's always potential in what might scare one, doesn't scare another. And seeing creepy/crusty Sonic fangames is always a treat, no matter how random, obscure, or terrifying (or not) they may be. Most/some have got a decent amount of effort put into them, after all. :) But seriously, being an Archie Sonic Comic fan, that "Lara Underground Boom" hurt and cut deep.....

Finally, quality content

Vinny going from creepy Mario games weeks ago straight to the source of the .EXE fad was pretty amusing. I said this in another video but I truly think An Ordinary Sonic Rom Hack was the best form of the concept, being a version of Sonic 1 with an extra horror-themed game element to go with it. I'd be interested to see if Vin ever plays that one. Also it would be funny if he finally played Friday Night Funkin again but instead of playing the official content he missed he just plays a handful of those goofy Sonic.exe mods lol

I think some of these exe things might be better if it was more like Sonic just went crazy, but it's not trying to be a meta thing (I know it's .exe and all for a reason, but it doesn't do anything for me.) I'm glad Vinny rips into these. It makes me feel a little less embarrassed that I'm watching games trying to make mario and sonic scary...

Careful! Sonic was the first person to treat Tails with any sort of kindness, treating him as a friend and equal. and Tails returned Sonic's kindness with gruesome, jealous murder! ... The more I dwell on it, the more I realize that I utterly despise "Sonic I Hate You" as a story. Its premise is demonstrably stupid and cruel. I'm a fan of vinny, but this is just hard to watch and im not even halfway done. Vinny's just being a fucking asshole to everyone this stream and not in a funny way either. Probably having a bad day or smth and taking it out on chat but this isn't good stream material. Hope he apologizes for this stream, but knowing him, he wont.

I wish we could give the metroid franchise a chance to enjoy the creepypasta and run right and scare genre. Guess the best we will get is Fusion.

People may laugh at the Tails Music Odyssey game in the Bootleg 400 in 1 fan-game, but it has just as much consequences for missing notes as Goodbye Volcano High.

2011X is definitely the best one just trying to be a faithful remake, what Vinny said about how it makes sense if you grew up thinking EXE games were the scariest shit is so true and I was actually like "wow yes exactly he actually gets it" (even if he goes to still make fun of it right after lmao)
