The town building and dungeon exploring combo REALLY reminds me of Dark Cloud.

It always makes me smile when there's consequences to Vinny not reading dialogue

What I like about this game is that I can try to refine my build's efficiency to make it save space, and using that saved space lets me grab stuff to sell to the in-run shops to further refine my build.

Hellyeah, the maximalization is real- The downside to hawking items is when you find a good build enabler down the line and sold 3 items that woulda been perfect for it, but that's the gamble you take I guess!

20:57 last I checked any game that gives you the option to fight someone either suggests that the game is giving you the option to skip fluff or it's allowing you to pass on a absurdly difficult fight.

The longer this stream went on the more it felt like a fever dream, especially the ending

Every time I watch Vinny play a game, it's like pulling teeth. No read, no think, just press button and go "Mamma Mia!"

i love this game so much that i soypointed to the thumbnail on my monitor when i saw it. there are a few mods for this game that add a crapton like farlands dwelling and axel modularo, if anyone is worried about not enough content.

That was one of the best Lynch impressions I've ever heard. It was more Lynch than Lynch.

May be time to come back to this game. Was very into it for a while. Then, I was too pissed off to play it. There's a character in town who is the stock oblivious selfish character that sends you on completely unenjoyable missions. Note to devs, if you ever think "isn't it so obnoxious and unfun that you have to help this character no one likes?" - the answer is yes, and don't put that character in the game. That part alone, I could deal with. What I couldn't deal with is that after completing the very last mission for him, where you have to carry a cursed item around for a full run, the character broke into repeating error text, the mission could never be completed, and the item could never be removed from subsequent missions, breaking my save file and all of the hours I'd already put in it. Fun!

I enjoyed my time with Backback Hero quite a bit, but I have big problems with it. My main problem is how literally every enemy scales per turn. They will block for more and deal more damage. Every enemy is like this. I've had builds that I felt were pretty great, but I didn't do quite enough damage to kill them soon enough, so I watched as I crossed the point where winning was impossible. If you're build doesn't scale infinitely, then you better do a lot of damage. Overall the game feels like it pigeon-holds you way too much. The upside to this is that you can save-scum so hard. Think what you want, but when the battles feel unfair, then I don't feel as bad. The town builder is also very underwhelming. It was buggy back when I played it, but even ignoring that, it feels like they wanted to build your own town how you want it to look (not that you have much in terms of options), but the very mechanics of it do exactly the opposite. Where placing random objects, like barrels, near certain buildings boosts said buildings effectiveness. But at the same time each item of that time that you place becomes exponentially more expensive. Meaning that if you weren't piling objects around the most useful buildings in the ugliest way possible, then the game was going to take even longer. The game is so very grindy it's almost funny. I like the game, but there's a limit. Also, the dialog and characters are terrible. The lore is uninteresting and felt like an afterthought and I mean that truly. For once I actually think that Vinny is saving himself anytime he skips it. Sorry if that sounds mean-- but I'm not exaggerating when I say this. I'm not looking for Game of Thrones level writing (obviously I mean the good parts). It can be simple, but I felt like there was no effort put into it. I say all of this as someone who has put in, like, 40+ hours in the game. It's fun, the music is great, the core mechanics are interesting, but it's very flawed. Still a good game overall, but I'm not gonna lie to myself. If anyone wants to play the game, it's worth it in my opinion, but the flaws are heavy.

The story mode to me was fine, but it's really just a lore dump and as already mentioned the lore isn't exactly all that. You can freely ignore it and just play free play mode where everything's already unlocked and there's no town to build.

I thought the town building aspect was interesting until around halfway through the storymode, I realized that the most efficient way to play is to completely demolish your town, place only the buildings you want to use to maximize bonuses, and then demolish it again to fill it with buildings that generate resources during a dungeon delve. While you don't _have_ to do that, resource gain without it is laughably awful. Selling items you bring back from dungeon runs is also both a terrible idea (you might end up needing them later for unlocks), and rewards you with a pitiable amount of resources for how hard the costs scale. I ended up cheating myself a lot of the generic resources so I could just focus on bringing back items and filling out unlocks.

Last time vinny played this i bought the game out of frustration. I think its time to boot it back up.

This game is fantastic and I really like Vinny's gameplay and personality, but this REALLY has that effect of bad mobile game ads where you want to play the game because the person playing is making such obvious mistakes.
