Vinnie Stigma of Agnostic Front: The Godfather of Hardcore (A HardLore Film)

Музыка

HardLore is honored to be joined by the Godfather of hardcore himself: Vinnie Stigma from Agnostic Front.
A true pioneer of the genre and a living legend, Vinnie took us around his neighborhood in New York City, including the world famous former home of the legendary venue CBGBs. We learned all about his early days as a punk rocker, making the jump to hardcore, how much he misses playing in Madball and SO much more in these incredible 2 hours of the hardest lore yet.
There's possibly no hardcore today without Vinnie and Agnostic Front's contributions to the genre, and there's certainly no HardLore.
They say never meet your heroes.. They've never met Stigma.
We can't thank everyone involved enough for making this happen.
Vinnie, Mike Dijan, Tom Sheehan, our special guest co-host Dan Seely, Producer Andie Andres, PA Aaron Warman, and the incredibly talented Rob Menzer for bringing this insane journey to life.

I used to play in a hardcore band in El Salvador in the early 2000s. Somehow, one of our shirts and our album made it all the way to Mr. Vinnie Stigma. He sent us a picture of himself wearing the shirt, and that was a major highlight in our career. It was incredible for us, a band from a third-world country, to see a true legend like him rocking our merch. Best episode ever-it's going to be hard to top this one!

The story about the Pete Steele Magazine prank is amazing. Voorhees played a few UK shows with AF in the 90s and decided to prank Vinnie by telling him that when it comes to money in the UK "the bigger the coin the higher the value", so he was cherishing all these 2p coins over £1 coins haha, legend.

Hahah that's amazing. The dude who was on last week has an amazing Stigma prank story too. Remember that old pre youtube meme video of the dog doing another dog and vomiting? Tom didn't know if Stigma would remember him after seeing him 15 years after Indecision toured with AF. Stigma comes up to Tom going "hey kid, you still got that video of the two dogs fucking and one of them vomiting?". Tom remembers that everyone had it on their laptop and tries to figure out if they showed it to him or something, all while Stigma goes "i've got my eyes on you, kid" multiple times over the night. Later on realizes the timeline didn't add up at all, so Stigma just linked him to a loose date, said that and had him think about it all night. So fucking funny.

They saw him in the street and approached him for a photo, Robin apparently in a pretty shit mood just said 'Fuck Off' when one of them tried to sneak a pic with him... so off they fucked. BUT a few moments later they suddenly see Robin Williams running towards them, where he proceeds to genuinely apologize, chat for a while (mimicking their accents) and take some photos (including literally taking a photo of Voorhees without him in it haha)

I 1st met Vinny & Roger in 1992 in Bristol England, was introduced to the by my mate Gabba (was and still is Chaos UK guitarist). I was halfway through prospecting for 1 of the big 1% clubs at the time. Fast forward to 2004 and serious injuries have ended my 1% career and I'm reunited with Vinny, Roger and the Gallo brothers. For the next 6yrs I spent many good times with the AF lads and in 2010 Vinny and me decided to start the Vinny Stigma Over 50s Club with another 3 Brits. Was only 5 of us and already we were older than the United States. Haven't seen AF since 2014, I dont go out to gigs, pubs etc due to a brain injury from my Army service BUT Vinny my friend Mad Danny is going to make sure I'm at your next gig in Bristol, England so come back again soon mate🇬🇧

That Beer Olympics at the Masquerade was fantastic. I think it was in 2000. Long story short, Vinnie Stigma actually helped me out on the 2nd day of that show while I was getting an earful from a cop. I had gotten kicked out at one point on day 1 and snuck back before getting asked to leave again towards the end. On Day 2 a cop outside was "warning" me, and Vinnie came over and kinda smoothed it over in his typically charismatic fashion and turned it into a non-issue. Incredibly classy guy who really loves hardcore punk and everyone in it from the bottom of his heart.

This is the best episode and Stigma is an absolute legend. However, there are three live AF records from CBGB, not two.

Hardcore didn't start in '83 w/ AF it started in CA w/ Fear. 3 years earlier. Right?

Bad Brains and many of early Boston drove the sound to the tag that got stuck the moment Vancouvers D.O.A. released Hardcore '81. But Hardcore as a subgenre, Bad Brains and Boston Not L.A. took the 40:54 helm in development. From a European perspective that is. You gotta remember it was all D.I.Y. with no Internet so it was serious work to order just an issue of Flipside or Maximum R'n'R, never mind the records ordered thereafter. In Europe Discharge and GBH aside Finland sure provided the most Hardcore bands in the sense of speed and menace. There are certain Bands from all over the country adding up for sure and the mushroomed scene was small so subdivision was of no use really.

This NYHC series of episodes may have single handedly made me start wearing my OG CBGB shirt again. Got that shit from the bar on a 12th grade class trip to NYC in 2005 😂
