Vinnie Moore, the most accurate technically proficient guitarist ever with beautiful melody flowing effortlessly...Do miss his old tone from Time Odyssey period though...

Hek I miss the tone from his first record as well. Why he had to change perfection is beyond me.

James C I got a good recreation of his tone when I owned the Hughes and Kettner Cream machine tube peramp., I am looking for one again on ebay as they come up every now and then and they used to be cheap too.

Cool, his tone on Mind's Eye just worked great for his playing. The high notes were bright and crisp, and the low strings were fat and crunchy when he alternate picked. Now he's got this hybrid single coil tone and it doesn't get the same response emotionally for me. Hard to explain but tone is everything! Time Odyssey was a completely different sound but still beautiful.

There's a reason why I'm still playing guitar is Vinnie, not the best but so melody n different fill unlike, Gilbert, Vai, Joe, Guthrie and Malsteen, once again his not the best but he will make you listen to his songs not once but repeatedly over n over again, especially COMING HOME. Thank you Moore.

I remember when Moore's album was dominating along with MacAlpine's stuff. GIT people flowing out of the woodwork. Howe. Gilbert. crazy times. What happened to neoclassical?

I miss those days a lot. I used to go into town with my guitar tutor at weekends and we would go halves to a REH or Hotlicks VHS cassette.. I have still got most of 'em and they are really fuzzy in parts where I rewound countless times. All the intros are barely watchable now but I keep 'em for the memories. The Paul Gilbert and Greg Howe ones are fully done so I just watch U-tube for that. I also got a Queen Live at Wembley stadium VHS with all the Ch4 adverts, It's hilarious to watch.

yeah, I was working at a music store around the time all those guitar lesson vids were happening. late 80s. I was a good player then but just was not exposed to all the fretboard gymnastics and picking stuff those guys had been exposed to so I watched Greg Howe in awe. Gilbert. etc. I met Tony MacAlpine at the store around 1989. Watched him do some tunes at the store. It was kind of an amazing time because I didn't know how he was doing half the stuff he did.

TruthSurge I loved the T.Mac video he brought out back then. The intro and outro tunes he played were very classy and I learned all his rotation licks. There was something special about his muted picking at high speed that got my attention and I bought everything from then on. My fav is his Eyes of the world album with 'summers gone' and 'urban days'. I also bought the Vinnie Vincent vid which was just ridiculous...When I first heard his cadenza solo in the song 'Animal' I thought it was sped up to tape and was just a extravagant effect 'cause actually it playing at that tempo seamed impossible..lol. Which store did you work at back then?
