In my personal opinion this is what true mastery of an instrument looks like. Not just Vinnie although Vinnie is the GOAT, everyone in this recording has the most incredible sound. That can only be achieved through a lifetime of playing. Such an inspiration.

The primary groove he is playing is pretty much a purdie shuffle on high hat. He then goes into offbeat quarter note triplets in the high hat while keeping a strong beat three in the left hand then switching to playing the high hat on the second triplet partial of a eighth note triplet before playing the full band hit on beats three and four (maybe 1 and 2) with his left hand

Agree with Piece Of Mind and British Steel. My own picks would be Rust In Peace, South Of Heaven, Seven Churches, Heartwork, Slaughter Of The Soul, Domination, Once Upon The Cross. I like them enough, but still don't get the status they enjoy (taste or the lack of it probably has everything to do with it).

It looks like it's some configuration of Zakir Hussain's (tbl) Crosscurrents with Dave Holland (b), Sanjay Divecha (g), Louiz Banks (p) and normally Chris Potter (ss, ts) - but clearly that's not Chris here.

Omnituplets ;) ... just playing with notes and rhythm. People are still focused on notes. That is wrong. He is just playing what he is feeling at that particular moment. Its a game of instant creativity.
