Somehow Thors was able to identify that actually the only way to keep his son and friends safe was to not kill Askeladd, somehow he knew that Askeladd would keep his promise, the other vikings would have killed the rest of them or taken them captive to sell as slaves. Askeladd keeping his final promise shows that Thors was right about him.

Makes sense. I did not think of it from this perspective. So far I've only watched until episode 5 and I hate Askeladd.

@@Manamyte29 He is a complicated character, many reactors start out disliking him. I hope you enjoy this season, I loved it.

I didn't expect to like this Anime that much. Since the way they painted the inexperienced youngsters of the village trying to conquer Ylva, to the way the trap took place! I liked it very much! Askeladd did the job he was payed for, no honour, no complaints. He also respected last Thors words and took only his life and the ship. The fault is Bjorn's one (was bjorns the blonde guy who committed the kill?), he payed for his head, he kept in the shadow. Maybe we'll know why Bjorn wanted Thors head, maybe some personal reason... I'd like to explore even this path, with the others that can be explored here (many). I would like also to see the development of the other guys from the village, but I know we'll surely walk the path of Thorfinn, I'm happy about it, but also very sad, the last shot of episode 4 talks by itself. What I see is the guy who eat the berserker mushroom, without eating a berserker mushroom. The effect of the mushroom on that guy lasted shortly, will Thorfinm rage ever ends? I'd like also to talk a little about what I said in last Vinland's comment. Don't lie to child, if a child is smart will see the dissonance between your words and the fact, if he's little or less smart he will believe unconditionally to a lie. Also telling the direct truth is not the best way, but if you don't want to tell the truth let him/her understand that you'll tell later the truth, or tell it partially in more times, maybe finding a lighter or nicer way to tell it. What I mean is that Thorfinn was always told "you don't have to kill", "war and kill is bad", "why not just love each other" and so on. He was already noticing the world doesn't work that way and maybe it was a lie (battling with other children). For that reason he didn't understood why he couldn't go with Thors, why that would have been a serious problem, so he hided and started with them. Whenthe naked truth has been revealed (for everybody, but especially for him), he thought all was a lie, his mind has gone off and a natural berserker was born. By the way I just checked and this anime is so deep also because Vinland saga us a seinen too, as One Punch Man. So it's deeper and more realistic than a shonen (I like it).

Yayyy! I knew it. It’s the perfect anime for someone like you. I think you are talking about Floki. Floki wanted him dead and I think it’s because Thors abandoned the Vikings. Episode 4 was sooo sad. Made me cry a lot. I think sometimes you have to lie to a child because they wouldn’t understand the reality and sometimes you have to protect them from the harsh realities of life. That way they will still have their innocence and a nice childhood. Maybe that’s what Thors tried to do. But sadly it didn’t help :(
