@@rhetti6368 It's not just VR chat, Vinny gets that kind of behaviour in his chat all of the time. Just some games maybe attract it more than others. For example, go look at Animal Crossing New Horizons videos. It's a casual game and yet a lot of the chat that filters through is the same.

New voice actress is growing on me, she somehow does have that distinct tone of voice OG Alyx had, just younger. She'll never, ever be our beloved Merle Dandridge, but she really plays the part of a younger, less wordly and more optimistic Alyx very well.

I love having subtitles in everything I watch/play, but I tried them in Alyx and had to immediately turn them off, even though it means I miss dialogue sometimes. It really just doesn’t look good. I wish Valve would make a spectator-only subtitles option for streams, tbh

I am very thankful they added a seperate voice volume slider for this game though! I just keep the game/music at 60 and the voice at 100 and then I don't really need them

@@MannFace51 Nah, I've known people who's voices have changed a lot between 19 and 24. Also, Alyx sounds way too old to be 17. Pretty good casting. Although, I will get pretty pissed if when Alyx comes back in the next Half-Life game and is supposedly 24, still isn't using Merle's voice.

I love how we get to see a little bit more of how the Combine just incorporate whatever organic matter they can find into their machines

I own and have played the game, the gun has 11 lights one that changes from yellow to white at the top to display if there is a bullet in the chamber and 10 underneath to display the bullets in the clip. A clearish moment in the stream is when he first gets the gun at 43:49

[unloads magazine with two rounds still in it and tries to stow it] "Shit..." [loads it back into gun and pulls slide back, bringing a round out of the chamber] "Don't wanna waste bullets."

In Vinny’s version of Half-Life, Alyx is just a dwarf who can sometimes levitate.

That vortigaunt part was amazing. And it was pretty interesting how they seen to experience time like a spatial dimension, getting confused with English way to speak of time, "he is or he will be dead? Well it's a matter of perspective", in the end it's just science fiction mambo jambo, but still very half life like dialogue. This is awesome.

To be fair, there is definitely an adjustment period, it takes time and practice especially if you're sensitive to VR sickness and using a headset with a massive FOV like the Index. Shift is fine in the meantime. I was more bothered by Vinny not being able to find seated mode and instead playing in hobbit mode.

@@Hwyadylaw That makes sense. I do think the tech is getting a lot cheaper though. I got a WMR 2 years ago for less than 200 dollars. I dunno what it costs now, probably around the same because a lot of WMR sets aren't officially being sold anymore. I think soon buying a VR set is pretty much just gonna be the same thing as buying a monitor, mouse and keyboard. And I think it's gonna be sooner than 5 years, especially if we get more games like this. VR has been progressing in the background incredibly lately so when it hits the mainstream it's gonna be nuts.

@Tiztu VR in this case is a combination of many factors. The visuals(a combination of covering a lot of your field of view compared to a regular monitor, a high frame rate, a wrap around view with the use of head tracking, and fully stereoscopic 3d that gives amazing depth to a scene and gives you a sense of scale) The motion controls(they were a gimmick when the wii came out because they were in an early stage and seen on a regular television. This isn't comparable to special controllers(and headset) that are tracked in a 3d space so your body and hand movements are translated into the game allowing interaction with a virtual world. This is like comparing the flintsone car with an mclarren.) The Audio(This is a big part that gets way less credit than it deserves. The combination of headphones made for binaural audio, head tracking which massively affects how immersive audio feels, and binaural audio make for sound you can't really replicate on a regular setup.) When you combine all of this you get something that isn't really comparable to regular gaming. Every step foward was a gimmick at some point. Stereo sound was a gimmick when it was first introduced. Audio in films was a gimmick as well. The point at which a "Gimmick" becomes a "Feature." is when people figure out how to utilize it. And it very well seems like valve figured it out.

Vinny has the same problem here as he did in Black Mesa, where he keeps trying to open the doors without handles that are unopenable every time they appear

It’s what I like to call “explorers syndrome” just trying to see everything the game has to offer, and not wanting to miss a thing, like whenever I encounter a door that Normally can’t be opened during normal play, I like to go back and noclip through to see if there’s actually anything behind it.

I.... don't know if I've seen Vinny THIS excited when playing a game for the first time. Maybe Breath of the Wild? I don't know. Either way it's great to see him so happy.

This was kind of magical watching Vinny get lost in the world.

i see a lot of smartassing in the comments who cares about vinny throwing shit, you can hear how giddy he is over this game its :) like good for him for real :)

I stopped caring about how Vinny plays the games a long time ago. It’s a lot better, if I want a more serious play-through I go somewhere else. Vinny is here to entertain us and himself.

If you've ever watched a new person play a game and half-way through the playthrough you realize they're actually being really annoying (ahem pewdiepie's playthrough of detroit: become human) then you know why they bother commenting about it. I know it's dumb, but it's just people venting

I wish the spectator mode smoothed out the turning as well. That to me is more jarring than the teleportation since at least with the teleport there's an indication when it's about to happen (the feet).

they already are, look at the odyssey+, pretty damn cheap for VR, around $180 is what I paid for it.

After finishing the game, i want more! ive just been replaying the game over and over its just so good and fun. Cant wait for the community content !

I’ve never really play any of the prior half life games but damn, the presentation here is phenomenal

I finally got a Vive Pro, I've been holding off playing this specifically so I could have a vive headset because I knew it would be worth the wait. Holy shit, this game is so fucking good. I just wanted to play for a few minutes to make sure my new headset worked and wound up playing for 3 hours.

I'm guessing by immersion he just means he wants to feel like he's there, having subtitles at the bottom of the screen prolly wouldn't help that, whereas throwing shit at people and talking over dialogue probably doesn't

Ethan I saw a video of this game running fine on a GTX 1050 ti and a wmr headset can go for only about $150-250

@@jakeb.3497 Thanks for the tip! That's way more affordable, but it's still around 300 bucks for one game. Maybe when I upgrade my PC next time I'll just factor VR into it, and then I can follow the tradition of playing Half Life years late.

I'm just waiting until VR technology is actually good. If you look at how good handhelds have gotten since the early days of the Gameboy, you can infer VR will probably take the same route. The consoles will get easier to use, become cheaper, and be more user-friendly. Might take a while longer than the jump from Gameboy to Switch, but we'll get there.

my favorite playthrough so far soaking it in for all of us too

While it's frustrating at times, watching Vinny slowly get the hang of VR and the guns is extremely satisfying.

Me: *Opens a tin of cashews and proceeds to munch* Vinny: "Crunchy noises in this game so far" Me: *Slowly puts lid back on tin* "My bad.."

How did valve managed to make me feel i'm inside that world, even tho i'm just watching?

Believe me bro, when you’re inside it, YOU’RE INSIDE IT. I know it looks good now, but the moment I was in it, worth every single penny... Best VR toy, hands-down! ... And Blade and Sorcery occasionally, LOL!

god the comedic timing of him going "don't wanna waste bullets" and then immediately pulled the slide and wasted a bullet is fucking amazing
