Rayman was actually developed by Ubisoft precisely to *be* the new brand mascot for Atari (like their answer to Mario or Sonic, as you couldn't be a player in the early '90s console wars without a cartoony mascot character who could be in platformers on your console, I guess) in their great shining new golden age that the Jaguar was sure to usher in for them...which I guess makes it honestly pretty remarkable that Rayman became a successful franchise that is still going.

The Jaguar version of Doom haunted console ports of the game for years afterwards, because the cuts to the levels made to fit it onto the cartridge were retained in almost all ports of that generation- even the PlayStation version, where they weren't necessary (as shown by the complete versions of levels from Thy Flesh Consumed and Doom II in that port!). I don't think there was a console version that had the original PC versions of the levels until the 2005 release for Xbox, as part of the Doom 3 collector's edition.

The Zool 2 soundtrack reminds me of the time that in my class we had to make music and the only music theory I knew was scales so I would just play random notes in a scale that sounded better than nothing while my friend did the percussion like some wizard

Atari Jaguar: More Bits = More Shits

Fun fact about the Jaguar: It's debatable that it was even 64 bit. It had two 32 bit chips that sent control signals to 64 bit co-processors. This set up made it exceptionally difficult for developers to make games for the Jaguar, which is why a lot of them are underperforming. People seem to have different opinions on if it really had 64 bit qualities, but at the end of the day no one could develop for the damn thing. Even if it was, that potential would never be realized.

46:32 In PS1 Medal of Honor, you didn't even have to use the shoulder buttons to strafe. You were given the option to configure the controls to work like modern console shooters. It still feels great to play now.

I love how the buttons on the controller are labelled as CBA. Even the system can't be assed with itself.

Actually the reason DOOM lacks a soundtrack is it utilizes all of the CPUs. Leaving no resources left for audio beyond effects. Mostly because the Jaguars hardware even compared to certain other consoles is absolute shit.

actually it became more than just Ninjabreadman Data Design Interactive took the additional levels they made (A music theme, egypt theme and toys theme) and reused the assets of those levels, expanded them and turned them into 4 SEPARATE GAMES!!! One shit game, turned into four!!! Even worse? DDI even made a freaking Casper game out of the Ninjabreadman assets and the like. Look up their catalogue sometime, it's some of the most copypaste crap you'll ever see.

+ranchdressing Guru Larry covered a lot of this topic. Ian Stewart of Zoo Digital who had picked up the license for Zool commissioned DDI make a new game for them. Zoo Digital were horrified by how awful the game DDI had come up with so the game was cancelled. DDI were so far in development and had noticed people would buy crap anyways as long it was cheap, decided to stump up the game themselves to finish the game. Change Zool to you know what and release it as a budget title in 2005. then rerelease that as Billy the Wizard etc. You probably know the rest...

Fun fact the Atari Jagwire had two 32 bit processors that was supposed to work simultaneous with another but only one could work at a time that's why it was such a nightmare to develop for saying it was hey 64 bit Console but in reality you could only handle 32 bits.

So what you're saying is that Atari ended up creating the Saturn before Sega created the Saturn. For reference, the Saturn had a second processor slapped on at the last minute once Sega realized that 3D was "in," and because the two CPUs had no cross-talk between each other, the Saturn was agonizingly difficult to program for; this slapdash architecture is also why it's so hard to make a good emulator for the Saturn.

Zool was not "originally" a SNES game, it was also on PC and other consoles, as was Zool 2. It was a multi-console release even back then. I played the crap out of the PC version, heh.

The point of the Noid was to impose about horrible pizza company's shipping poorly transported delivery pizza on purpose. Like, they avoid the horrible delivery which was the Noid's job to ruin it. It's gone now because some mentally unstable person named Harold Noid thoight it was a threat and held up a Local Dominos pizza with demands for a pizza and a book. He was arrested and committed suicide in a mental institution. It was so dark, they completely ditched it.

That's not really the main reason they ditched him, but more the stroke that broke the camel's back. Before the whole Noid disaster Domino's stopped the whole "fast delivery in 30 min or money back" policy because it was proven not to be ideal for employee safety. Multiple pizza deliverers actually *DIED* due to traffic accidents because they had to literally race to get the pizza at homes in time to get paid for the pizza. So when the sole reason/policy that the Noid was invented for was cancelled, it already made the Noid kind of useless and purposeless. And when the real Noid fiasco happened later, it permanently killed all the remaining popularity and marketability the Mascot had left.

I remember back in the day you could buy both the jaguar and the goldstar version of the 3DO at costco. Both were advertised as revolutionary and cost huge sums of money, and the rest is history lol

Fun fact: Zool 1 can be completed in speedruns in about 9 seconds, specifically I believe 9.88, due to a wrong warp glitch.

This is something I feel most drastically with the recent Doom '16. It has alot to do with which Doom you're playing, honestly. The frantic, circle-strafey kind of Doom is definitely lessened by the lack of their respective soundtracks. Doom 64 on the other hand, a whole new set of stages with much more of a lean on slow, methodical, peek-and-shoot level design gains something from the ambient tracks that didn't fit as well with the PS1 ports of Doom and Final Doom. I even tried playing Doom music over Doom 64 once and it actually lost something, because the slower play and slightly fidgety console-controls made Doom feel the closest it ever got to survival horror. Even more than Doom 3 if you ask me.

Self-Referential in my opinion the game is more atmospheric without the music and is a lot more immersive. The guy that did this video didn’t really give any of the games a real try either. Yes most of the games on the jag are not great by any means but doom super burnout and even cybermorph are decent games and highlights imo for the system

Unpopular opinion but i like the jaguar... they gave up on it way too quick... i know they said it was 64 bit but that doesn’t matter to me. It had fun games and that is all that mattered to me. Zool 2, Attack of the Mutant Penguins, RayMan, Tempest 2000, Pitfall, Alien vs Predator, Doom, Raiden. These were all really fun. It had a library that was small but most of the games for it ranged from decent to great. Jaguar had the potential to be much more than what it was and it is unjust when people say it is a shit system, it is not the best system by any means but it is nowhere near the worst system ever made either. It is better than 3DO, CDi, and all these other companies that tried game consoles... out of all the consoles not made by sony, sega, nintendo or microsoft, the jaguar is the best imo

Too be honest I would blame the composite cables (AV) for the shit video quality not the console it self

Hes so confused by all the number keys its distracting him from playing AVP and hes getting stuck on the walls. REALLY? Who gets stuck on the walls in AVP? Thats never been a thing. The number keys are no big deal they are just extra buttons you dont even have to use most of the time. People like Vinny who go apeshit over the number keys are just being extra

I don't think words can properly describe how horrible Kasumi Ninja is. I had the "pleasure" of playing in on Jaguar once and it was miserable. It needs to be played legit to fully know. Not even including how delayed and clunky the game feels, but with how horrible the fucking Jaguar D-pad makes it feel like you're ripping the skin off of your thumb by trying to throw a fireball.
