I like to how the deathmatch revolver only has a laser and iron sights but it zooms in. I like to imagine the reason beta Barney has broken eyes is because they ZOOM out of his head cartoon style and everyone else can do it too.

I spent ages trying to figure out how to open ports as a kid to host servers and one day my dad changed ISPs and magically the servers started to work. I learned years later that it was because of the fact that the previous ISP didn't hand out public IP addresses. Hamachi was used a lot because of it but man it was a struggle and 99% of the time it would show my friends with a blue icon which meant a massive ping and you had to reset it tens of times to get it to green

Man, this game was such a revelation back when it came out. I absolutely loved it. 😊

I ran my own server called “Vargskelethor joey” and I was Vargskelethor Joel no fake and got to pay for like 10 minutes before my eardrums exploded, thank you John Life for making this game

don't know why people said "set max FPS to 20" since I always remembered H-L running at 60fps. I think the max fps people remembered H-L being at depended on their potato system set ups at the time. H-L, like Quake and Quake 2, forced people to upgrade their PC's to the latest graphics cards etc. back when PC games really pushed hardware.

i know you'll never see this or bother to read it, but i have a story. i've grown up watching your streams, and also with half life. real life however isn't easy, and over the years things have been total shit for me, and i have struggled to sleep at the best of times. coming back to your streams, hearing you and especially hearing you talk about something i/we love so much in this particular low point to me, is like coming back to an old and trusted friend regardless of the fact we've never met. i haven't felt this comfy for a while, and i'll probably have fallen asleep comfortably for the first time in a while by the end of this video. thank you joel :)

If you want to make "Change Game" menu appear again, make a shortcut and launch the Half-Life executeable directly from the game files instead of using the Steam-created shortcuts.

Half-Life Deathmatch was a highlight in itself for me this year but gunning down Joey in Deathmatch? Highlight of the year. 👍

Been binging Vinesauce Half-Life content ever since the update came out, great to have yet another one!

This is the sort of thing where any other studio would completely ruin it with raytracing, shadows and upscale textures, but valve actually went a few steps backwards, and improved it that way.

valve knew it didnt need to be "remastered" fans already have the re-imagined version of the game in black mesa... and the HD version of half life was widely hated... valve just needed to fix the bugs created by the source port.

I’ve been a console gamer my whole life, but decided to make the switch to PC in 2020 because all of my friends did. Best decision I’ve ever made! But now that I was a fully-fledged PC gamer, I felt it my obligation to try Valve’s premier line-up of games. I played Portal 1&2 on 360 via The Orange Box. I tried playing Half-Life 2, but my dumb ass at the time was like “This is just Garry’s Mod but not fun!” It wasn’t until I gave Half-Life 1 a shot in 2021 (and had the time of my life) that I decided to return to Half-Life 2, and it was in doing so that I had a much greater appreciation for the series. This series is a masterpiece!

Sound effects back in grandpa day were recorded in substandard environments and pitchboosted or doubled up to sound louder. So it sounds natural and more crusty, with resonance. Now everything is recorded in a perfect vacuum so it sounds artificial and "too good" or not created for the game at all - ie: audio jungle.

I love listening to Joel talk about Half Life. Reminds me of how I felt about Half Life 2 and me trying to play it on the family PC. I finally got to fully experience it on 360 which was great. Half Life is such a great FPS. It's on a league of its own, a true "thinking man's" shooter. Not really a quake style game, not really a stop and pop shooter.

I showed Half Life to my nephew and he screamed Skibidi Toilet on the top of his lungs.

I feel like me, a guy that mainly grew up with HL2 and Portal has better movement than Jobel. I want someone to make a challenge map where 100 chat members do a run and their average is rounded up to compete with Joel.

I've been playing Half-Lalf since I was 6 years old. I can theoretically handle a Glock 17 and SPAS-12 better than I can speak.

Of course Joel would drop 25th anniversary stream of HL1 to play skibidi games.

You're talking about compatibility issues, software that's optimized for out of date hardware or that's unable to utilize the full capabilities of the new hardware. Half-Life ran well on potato PCs, although you would have to use lower settings and resolutions.

Oh Joel is 100% onto something with video game sound effects sounding weak nowadays. I LOVED Halo CE's Assault Rifle. Sounded like you were popping football sized popcorn. Then it returned in Halo 3 six years later and it was like. dropping a handful of sand on a table. In the hunt for realistic sounds they forgot to put the fun in. Or audio mixing is just bad and you can only fully experience sounds in modern games through a full-on cinema audio setup.

Half-Life is a game you can play if you hate actual aiming (down the sights) and love dying on Easy.

I find it crazy that Valve has such a cult following that they can update a 25 year old game and still get as much praise as if they released a whole new game. I don’t know a single other studio that could successfully pull that off. Valve could make a 10$ HD Texture Pack DLC for HL1 and you’d think Half Life 3 dropped with the amount of praise they’d get.
