i love the fact that he becomes a better golfer under pressure
oh boy, 3 am!
this is proof Joel is a good pure hearted boy because he didn't think to cheat with the bag not even once

Nah He's just dumb
This game is really good, not only is the model work amazing, the game has some humor to it and not to mention, a very unique and original idea, of taking what should be a relaxing and stress-free sport and adding a lot of stress and pressure to it. I swear some of the lines become iconic, like "I cant look away while grabbing the bag" and "I'm not holding a club"

this was kinda spooky until Joel kept getting lost and stuck in bushes in the last stretch, then it became a comedy

First Act: Vargskelethor Club 'n' Scoot™️ Final Act: Joel plays Golf with Fronds
I'm shit at golf, I crumble under pressure, The entire concept makes me want to cry and I'm not even playing
lending more credence to "the player character is possessed by some kind of powerful eldritch entity [which is itself a joke on the players ability to retry at will, to always ultimately win, etc.]" the typeface in which the internal monologue is written is scratchy and uneven during Golf ("I'm not holding a club") but as soon as the player character wakes up after the End, they now think in a more consistent, stable typeface. ("Where am I?")
One of the best parts was chat spamming COFK every time Joel looked at the map/info at any given hole, after that one guy™ accidentally wrote cofk
The real horror is Joel constantly forgetting to grab his beg as he treks along.

I think it’s scarier when he forgets to put it down every single time
The audio does a lot for this game.

One eyed Joel sounds even funnier, I bet someone will put that in an animation
Not specifically related to the game being played here, but I've noticed how much online indie horror games have waves of trending styles. In the early 2000s it was RPGMaker horror, then towards the 2010s it shifted to "Slender: The Eight Pages" clones, and now it seems to have settled on low-poly, vaguely PSX/VHS-styled horror. It's crazy to think in around 5 years a completely different style will be dominant in online horror games!

I wonder what a surge of late 2000s/early 2010s horror themed games would look like. return of creepypasta? 'GTA myths' style full games with some horrid haunted goings-on beneath the surface? could be interesting.

@@VenoMantis I think the issue there is it would be considerably more difficult for indie's to pull that off. One thing consistent around all 3 of those trends is that they're cheaper and easier for one or a couple of people to develop. Not only that but if things were to move towards something more expensive and man power needing like that budget and time investment to develop would go up and creativity would go down as people become afraid to put all that money and work into something that might not get a return. The nice thing about the Blair Witch style of the indie horror scene is how 1 guy can just go do and some totally out their shit like horror golf without anything to lose if nobody notices it.
@primedawg9170

I kinda can't wait for a new style to take over this current one though, always feel like they try to emulate the PSX look without properly getting why it was so scary back in those days. Like some games are really good but the limitations really helps with setting the scary factor
I love when Joel screams more because of golf rather than of spooky stuff

Big respect to Joey for not doing the pro golfer move of placing the bag behind the hole to catch it
I love how the enemies emit part of the music. Really cool effect.
@cornobjects1173
9 ай бұрын
I'm not even sure what you would call that effect in technical terms (diegetic soundtrack, maybe?), but it's absolutely perfect for this game in particular, due to how often you have to look away from the enemies while planning/swinging/putting. Not only can you tell how close the danger is by audio alone, you can even tell how many stalkers are nearby using the number of additional sounds in the music
@This-Was-Sparta
9 ай бұрын
Good question, I'm not sure. 🤔 I suppose it's not really diegetic, the character probably doesn't hear it in universe but at the same time it's clearly originating from a position in that world. It's like a weird mix.
@cornobjects1173
9 ай бұрын
@@This-Was-Sparta With the twist at the end, it's possible the character DOES actually hear it, since he's clearly not an average human being. Wouldn't be too big a stretch to say he/it can sense the zombies in a way a regular human couldn't
@TrueLadyEvilChan
9 ай бұрын
@@cornobjects1173 I think you definitely would call it diegetic. Groovy Long Legs from Pikmin 4, and funnily enough, that music man robot guy from Security Breach also make their own music just by existing.
After seeing the temple sections, final boss and ending, it's actually pretty neat how it all ties together (assuming I understand it correctly); You as John Golf: Green Marine aren't just a crazy guy golfing in the face of madness, but another eldritch deity just like Great Value Jerma, which explains the weirdly intense zoom ins and dialogue when talking to the two human characters, plus them being weirded out by you. You aren't fighting for survival, you're seeking and destroying your fellow abomination from beyond the stars., once you become aware of his presence. And of course you need a tutorial for how to play golf, you're probably some squid-looking bastard or a color beyond human understanding, but piloting a human meat suit to blend in and play some golf. In the end, with you destroying your rival and restoring peace, it wasn't because you wanted to save the world, protect mankind or anything sappy like that. It was purely because he killed some humans, raised them as zombies and used them to try and kill you, not knowing how badly he fucked up by interfering with your golf game. 11/10 story, would bogey again

Scariest games with the spookiest little streamer
The "Chapter 8" video game method part was pretty cool, because it doesn't really come across as a 4th wall break, feels like something you would find as a joke in a legitimate Golfing Tutorial book.
I always love how joel makes things harder than they should be lol. ''Look but dont stare'' never meant you would get killed immediately if looking for too long, they would just start walking towards you anyways, but Joel just assumed that if he stared long enough it would = instant death and made the running away twice as hard lol

Actually scary. I know not to golf at dark now
When he said it's like Aphex Twin I lost it.
Man who knew the pressure of getting your neck snapped could be a way to improve your game
This man goes to golf at night. The manager tells him the course is closed. He says, "I know." You should probably leave. "I know." Keeps golfing. He kills the manager and golfs around his corpse. He proceeds to golf while a *serial killer* is trying to chase him down and kill him. He then runs into another employee who can potentially save him. He tells this guy, "Im not done yet." And keeps golfing. This guy has some serious thrill issues. I cant believe Im saying this about golf of all things.
Shoutouts to cofk
This became genuinely terrifying once the guys you have to keep looking at showed up
I legit got second hand stress just from watching this. This game is a god damn rush, that’s for sure.
HELL YEAH!! I LOVE THIS GAME FANTASTIC SOUND TRACK TOO
Aw sweet horrors beyond my comprehension.
aside from the later half of the game when you're in the woods, this had a really good horror atmosphere with a cool gimmick when the monsters appeared. Story felt a bit jumbled up, more so than your typical horror game though
