I got the Canon adapter very early on with the circular polariser since it's a filter I've always loved and it is much easier to use with the thumb wheel rather than fiddling about on the front of the lens with a 77mm polariser. I'm not buying any new lenses now so the decision was easy. The polariser stays clean tucked away in the adapter and I'm very happy with the setup.

As someone thinking of moving to the Canon mirrorless system (from DSLR) I have been quite shocked at how little I would get for my old EF (L) glass. For that reason I think I will stay with my current lens line-up and use one of the third party adapters.

This was good but you missed one from Commlite which has a tripod mount on it. I got my RP when they were still giving away the adapter but bought one of these anyway because of the mount. This allows me to put all of the lens weight on the adapter mount versus the camera mount. I know that the 70-200 and 150-600 have their own tripod collar mount but not the shorter ones and they can get heavy as well (especially the 2.8's). I just checked and B&H has it for $60. It's a basic - no drop in - model but I haven't had any problems yet. Good vid, glad I came across it.

If it's reasonable to do so, you could probably do an update to this video with the Canon R5 C coming out. Waiting for mine to come in from Best Buy (it's delayed a bit). I have the Metabones speed booster EF to RF which I use to adapt my 24mm 1.4 to my Canon R (which I shoot most of my videos on). I just ordered the Viltrox to free up my Metabones for the RF C. I decided against getting the official Canon brand for now.

According to the Viltrox lens compatibility list, the Viltrox EF-R2 adapter should support a Tamron 18-400MM F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD B028. I am getting a black band around the perimeter of the viewfinder. Only a circular center actually shows the correct image. If I switch to the 1.6 crop mode, the entire viewfinder shows correctly. The instructions show that there is an EF-S Lens Mounting Index on the outside surface of the adapter approximately one CM to the right of the EF Lens Mounting Index. However, there are no explanations of how this mounting index is supposed to be used. Will I be permanently locked into the 1.6 crop mode or can I make some type of adjustment to allow for using the entire sensor? I have used this Tamron lens on a Canon 90D for about two years and it performs satisfactorily. I have had a Canon R5 for almost a day now.

The Viltrox normal adapter is not bad, but not great. It's only advantage over the basic Canon adapter is that it has a tripod mount (which I think is where Canon screwed up.) The Viltrox control ring adapter has many bad reviews, most of which deal with being a "loose" fit. I went with the Viltrox basic adapter for the time being until I was able to get the Canon control ring version several months later.

  • @dominey

The Canon adapters definitely feel more "fitted" compared to the Viltrox. In general, agreed. The Viltrox isn't bad by any means, it's just not as polished as the (more expensive) Canon options.

  • @subwarpspeed

    @subwarpspeed

    2 жыл бұрын

They do not change. They are open air adapters just to get the lens at the right distance it was designed to be from the sensor/film. If they are made for full-frame. RF cameras allow for lenses made for crop sensors (such as EF-S) to be used. I guess the focal length (and angle of view) will be the same as if used on an EF-S camera but the camera still does the crop for you and only uses the center part. So for photography it's just a last resort.

Gordon Liang in one of his reviews correctly notes that autofocus on his EF lens with adapter on new R5 was consistently slightly off and manual focus gave the full sharpness of the legacy EF. I find the same thing with several EF lenses including 85 f1.2 mii and newer 35 f1.4. Canon will have to kill off the legacy EF for them to make money on RF, so probably crippling the EF's full sharpness on newer bodies once they have more RF lenses to offer is likely. Keep an eye out folks.

I have the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 which is a powerhouse of a lens for shooting real estate photos and videos. However, there are times where I miss having the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 shooting houses with poor natural light on cloudy days. Unfortunately, that lens is no where near wide enough for real estate. Viltrox mentions on their website that certain third party lenses such as the Laowa 9mm will work on the Canon M50. I get many who say, as long as it's an EF lens, and has the red dot, not the white, it should work. While some like yourself say it won't. I'll know next week for sure when it arrives. If not, I'll be returning it, and selling the Canon M50 along with the Laowa lens. And moving on to the Canon R50 with the Laowa 9mm f2.8 RF mount lens. RF glass is vastly superior to EF, and the R50 performs much better in low light than the M50, in addition to having amazing 6k down sampling to 4k which looks professional. And no 4k @30fps crop!

First of all, thank you for creating amazing content, both quality and information wise! Would you happen to know if the adapter with the control ring allows the use of the fast refresh mode (which supposedly shortens the viewfinder freeze which happens at shutter release) in continuous shooting on the EOS RP (I don't know if this option even exists on the R5/R6)? It's supposed to only be available for RF glass, and I can't turn it on with the basic adapter, and wondered if it might become available with the control ring model, as it's advertised to make the lens behave just as an RF one. Thanks!

You might have learned this by now, but if not, micro USB cables differ in that some of them are one way and some are two way. A basic charging cord only lets power go to the device, but a cable designed to connect a device to a computer to transfer images and is also capable of charging is two way. Why? I don't know, but that's how it is.

The Canon adapters seem to come and go, unfortunately Think they're having problems with manufacturing.

I wouldn’t recommend Viltrox adaptors at all. I had two adaptors and after my camera manufacturer released a firmware update over six months ago, my Viltrox adaptors stopped working. Got in touch with Viltrox and they said they would fix the issue. Now six months later, they still don’t know when they will be able to fix it. No iris control at all makes the Viltrox an expensive paperweight

Shocked you didn't mention how bad EF RF Canon adaptors are scalped right now. These adaptors are all selling x2 value atm during the pandemic. A cheap one is 1.5x value. It's insane. I got lucky with patience and found someone who sold me one for $100 shipped.

@@ptaf92 It involved stalking mercari a LOT. It helped me with my decision to finally go EOS R. Saving up for the EOS R since canon decided not to reveal the EOS R II at CES.

It's bizarre how there is a shortage. It's like they were thinking to themselves "Hey, our (as of yet incomplete) RF lens are so good, who in the hell would want to use the EF lenses they already have?" Of course I wouldn't put the shortage as a way to still force people to buy RF lenses while still presenting themselves as the good guys who "at least made the adapters" beneath Canon.
