I bought it - Love it, and use it all the time on my Nikon Z5. I use it for architectural and real estate photography professionally.

A big part of it is the type of camera you intend to use a lens like this with. On one of the bigger bodies, what you mention is true, but on an A7C that you want to throw in a pocket or in a small sling bag, it's ideal if you want something on the 'wide' end rather than a standard prime

You are always a joy to watch both for reviews and for tips and tricks. This is no exception. One can never have one good lens too many and it were for Nikon Z full format I’d buy it. 😎

Hi. Any idea how this lens handles infrared converted cameras? Any hotspots?

I’ve recently moved to the tamron 20-40mm 2.8 and that is a great solution (bit heavier than a prime though)

This lens is great value for the $. The size and capabilities of these lenses (not only Viltrox) but the Sony 40 2.5 are really nice for gimbal work.

Thanks Harv. Your dad sounds a great guy. Not sure where this lens would fit for me though. I have the Sigma f2.8 18-50, which covers this range for me. It's a good, sharp, lightweight lens and very versatile. As you said yourself, the main reasons to have a prime lens over a zoom are lower aperture and better image quality. This Viltrox seems to offer little advantage, unlike, say the Sigma primes or the Sirui Snipers. Let's hope I don't win it 🤣

UPDATE. So, inevitably I DID win this lens. However, I now have come up with a very good use for it. I film in a 10ft x 6ft office at home, and on an APS-C sensor, this 20mm lens looks like a great focal length in that space. Super-wide aperture is not perhaps useful here, as the room is far too small to get any distance from the background. This may therefore turn out to be my most heavily-used lens.

It’s actually not, I did weigh it without and it was a little over. Must be that weird slither of choc in the middle 😂
