It looks great! I have the Nikon 14-30 f/4S but a prime would be nice and not destroy the bank. Viltrox is making a whole lot of Nikon Z mount lenses which is great to see 3rd party manufacturers finally getting fully on board. Thanks for sharing Richard.

Excellent review Richard, inspiring photos. I carry the Z 20mm f/1.8 and the 14-30mm f/4 and I've been waiting for Nikon to release a 14, 15 or 16mm f/1.8 or even f/1.4 but it never comes out again. I've already thought about buying the Sony 14mm f/1.8 but it costs a lot and you still have to use an adapter that costs almost half the price of the Vitrox 16mm lens. The Megadap FE-Z adapter costs €303.00 here at Europra. It's a shame Vitrox doesn't have this lens for Nikon Z because you'll have to use an adapter to use it on Nikon Z cameras. Vitrox 16mm E-mount €599.00 + customs taxes +Megadap FE-Z €303.00 is a bit of a strange budget, but it's still a good option as Richard says for Nikon shooters. I'll wait a little longer to see if Nikon launches a 14, 15 or 16mm f/1.8 or f/1.4, hugs and I'll wait for your next video Richard

I had to replace the first copy I received, because it was decentred. The second copy seems to perform better, but when I got the chance to test it a few weeks later I noticed fighter jet stars in a large section of the frame, not just the extreme corners. Thank you for great video and informative review! Is this viltrox 16 f1.8 better than z20 f1.8 and z14-24 f2.8 in terms of astigmatism, resolution, vignetting? I wonder which lense to buy viltrox 16 or z20 for landscape milkyway or panoramic milkyway(arch). I think it's problem to have strong vignetting when it comes to panorama. Viltrox may be troublesome… I should stopping down to f2.8. As for z20 1.8, it cross my mind sigma 20 1.4 dg dn(there is some report to have trouble with using adaptor, though). And, z20 1.8 has also little come and strong vignetting(when stopping down, it will well immediately than viltrox?) This is a tough one. Sorry for my bad english.

The Z20mm f1.8 is a better lens and what I would choose. All of these lenses have some vignetting wide open and that is often why I stop down the aperture a bit as well. The Sigma DGDN lenses are wonderful but I've not tried them on Nikon via adaptor.
Hi Richard another great video, just enquiring I know you like primes, but having the Sony 16-35 f2.8 is this not an ok lens if you were only using the one lens for both landscape & astrophotography. It's very good for video. But I didn't test it comprehensively using video.
Hi Richard, amazing review. Is it possible to dim the brightness or turn off the screen on the lens? Thinking of adding this one as my aurora and nightscape lens next o my 14-24 2.8. Which as you say is only 2.8. 😊

Thanks for watching Koen. I can't see a way of turning off the screen . .however I did notice that after a while it seems to go off all by itself until an adjustment is made. I didn't notice any light spillage issues with that screen being on though in my testing.

@@nightscapeimages.richard Thank you Richard, for your help. Going to order the lens later this week to do some astrophotography in Greece late June.
Planning a trip to shoot the northern lights. I need to purchase a lens for that trip. Would this be a good choice?

Yes I think it would be a great choice. I've just used it this past weekend shooting auroras here in Australia. Great results.
Oh man, I'd like to get this lens but I don't see it available anywhere. I know it's new but when and where will it be available?

Thanks for watching Mike. This lens will be officially released today here in Australia.
When can I purchase this lens? I don’t see it listed anywhere, and you don’t have a link?

I think it will be officially released this coming week.
Excellent review as usual Richard. How to you think the Viltrox 16mm f1.8 lens stacks up to the Nikon 20mm f1.8 Z in terms of performance / Quality? Cheers, Hendrik

It's very close Hendrik, but I feel the Nikon 20 is slightly better overall.

Just got the lens today and had a thought. Can I still use my lens warmer?

Yes of course you can. I did use one for the timelapse sequence in this video.
I have seen some other more expensive astro lens have got worse abberation. However, the vignnette control is quite bad though , even you stopped down to 2.8 already but still .........

Yes I think the vignetting is the worst part of this lens. However that's easier to fix than really bad edge aberrations.
