So basically this song is coded message encouraging young boys to explore their sexuality at the YMCA (an institution historically linked with gay subculture because of it's emphasis on social workouts and single men living in close quarters. So you're logic is wrong, this song was written for gay people and then straights decided to like it. Not the other way around. Good night.
