Plz don't take these beautiful people for granted. South africans are amazing. I lived in my teenage times as a young boy from congo. These people gave us everything, but some africans took it for granted and abused them. I will always be grateful for the love and support you showed me, I moved to Canada 20 years ago, but my home is still Durban and will return to invest and give back to the community. I already built a student apartment in Umulazi money more to come. Enjoy Ashley, you are in the good hands

Ashley, please ask your hosts to tell you about the LEGENDARY South African song that is associated with Umqombothi. All the way in Nigeria, we were singing "Umqombothi" and had no idea what it meant, but we were still rocking out. It was a continental African anthem of the 80s!

The name of the Village: "Umsinga" - it is a stream, or current, of water. It could be used in cases of a stream of wind/air - "umsinga womoya"(a stream of air), "umsinga weenyosi"(a swarm of bees). SO either there's a river flowing through the area, or there's strong winds, which would explain the name, "The stream/Current"

The majority of South Africans live in rural areas already and we don't buy land in the villages it's given to us. Also, some of those in the city actually own homes in the villages hence in Dec the cities are empty.

It's so good to see you having these experiences. If you can drink Kombucha you can definitely embibe on Umqombothi as they taste similar, but Uqombothi has a stronger kick to it.The differences with the 2 is that Uqombothi has a higher alcohol content: Kombucha is brewed using yeast, sugar and black tea whereas Umqombothi has more ingredients like maize (corn) maize malt, sorghum malt, yeast and water. Uqombothi is thus far more potent in regards to health benefits (minus the alcohol🤣🤣)

Super happy to see you guys in my home province. Just drove back yesterday from a week in Durban, my home city. It is such a welcome break from the dry Gauteng. On our drive back we were also marvelling at the beauty, lush scenery and maize plantations, mountains etc. on all sides of the N3 freeway. Hope you make it all the way to Durban proper soon.

Ashley you looked like you enjoyed yourself and had loads of fun…glad you did. Aunt Velile is an amazing content creator and I love her channel…but you weren’t in Durban. So your title is incorrect, the places you were in are many hours away from Durban and they are rural towns in the province of Kwazulu-Natal which the city of Durban is also in. Durban as a city doesn’t have any rural villages. Just had to call you out on your incorrect titling Edit: agree with everyone, your pronunciation of umqombothi was good, can tell you practised the click …well done😊

We have the Drakensburh, we have the entire WC which is just breathtaking. Small towns in the WC and even the Free state and Nothern Cape can wow you just the culture alone.

Unlike what most Americans I've met who've watched too many Hollywood movies that paint us as if we're out here hunting down lions and all. love you from South Africa
