All these people saying it wasn’t a red card 20 years ago… Beckham Simeone 98… barely touch him but got a red.. why? Cos he wasn’t playing the ball and was just kicking out… Don’t need to explain it to you lot I know but it’s been doing my nut in listening to people say it wasn’t a red 20 years ago… it was. That was definitely a red, didn’t even look at the ball, he ran with all his might towards Udogie and absolutely punted him.

Yeh look, you do see bad refereeing decisions where yellow is given. But the anger with which he made the challenge and the recklessness. It has to be a red for me. It’s such a shame. I just, don’t know what’s happening with Villa atm. We feel a bit rudderless atm. I don’t know what changes that. But, I hope we can hold fast and not lose the amazing start we made this season.

He wanted it more than the rest of them…passion and he had a moment, was a bad challenge but not dangerous…We’re sat in fourth! Disappointed today but a Great season and still 10 games to go…bad result but comon, Emery’s 1st full season, work in progress…enjoy it 🤷‍♂️ hopefully we’re fired up for Ajax after this and get a good result

To be fair if Romero did it everyone would be crying for a red so I don't see why if McGinn does it it isn't. But tbh the refs are dodgy af as well, Havertz dive was a clear red too so it's almost pointless for fans to even have a debate about refs decisions these days imo.

As a Spurs supporter I’m obviously delighted with the 3 points, was surprised by Villa performance, gave us far too much respect. Race for 4th should be close. Great video 👍

I’m a Spurs fan so I absolutely loved the game but I was surprised at how Villa just stopped in the second half. I was dreading this game all week because I want top 4 as much as you guys. But I hardly had a chance to sit down when the game came back on before we were 2-0 up. From there we just cruised to 4-0. I wish you guys luck in the conference league because obviously I can’t wish you luck in the league.

They were ran ragged. Part of that was Villa playing mid week but part of that was Spurs going full throttle throughout the first half, pressing well and moving the ball well. Villa had to work very hard for any joy they got and they had to work very hard just to stay in the game and keep Spurs from scoring. That wore them down and then after 2-0 they knew it was game, set match (hence the McGinn challenge)

Villa’s form has been terrible recently. But the bigger thing is, as much as nobody from Villa wanted to admit or accept it, Villa played an exceptionally understrength Spurs the first time around.

Man City got a lot of injuries especially to their goalie

We haven't played well since the city game, the Sheffield one dont count as everyone smashes them. Even in games, we should be winning comfortably we've barely scrapped through like the luton game. Today was abysmal, this one was a must win....at least not lose. Mcginn knew how big this was and threw the team under the bus

Agreed. Scraped recent wins. Defence is average. Diego Carlos has struggled and not surprising after his bad achilles injury. Now over 30--I think he'll continue to struggle. I'll also be surprised if Mings shows his old level of form. We're constrained by FFP etc . Could be difficult to move forward very quickly.

Why oh why can't we defend the first 10 minutes of a second half. 15 goals conceded this season between 45 and 55 minutes.

First match back at Villa Park since I moved away 13 years ago. Just like the Villa of old, loads of promise, then chucking it away when the pressure is on.

It cannot be underestimated how much we are going to miss Boubacar Kamara. An absolute beast in our midfield.

Appreciate this Max one thing producing a video when everything is hunky, I couldn't watch anything Villa related until Wednesday and that drive back to Bath was horrible

Emery got the system and his tactics wrong today imo. No real threat going forward and Spurs always looked fairly comfortable throughout and Vicario had very little to do. Bad day at the office, we now move on to Thursday where we must bounce back with an improved performance and result.

Why did he change the formation we change our shape for nobody Man City and Arsenal have come here and we play the normal system and won them games. Today seems very odd we had one day to train a different shape for the biggest game of the season it's bizarre that result falls at the managers door the players were not confident in what they were being asked to do from the start.

Don't give up. I'm old enough to remember 1980-81 when we lost to Ipswich and it was all doom and gloom. To quote the great Ron S. "Are you going to bet against us?"

Gutted with today however most of the lads looked knackered, coincidence? Nah that Ajax game took a lot out of them. Let’s just shrug our shoulders, reset and ‘ go again’ .

It was a shocker, no-one can deny that. Playing midweek shouldn't be an excuse. Tiredness is one thing but a lack of desire is another. That said, and the only positive, did we really think we'd be 4th in game week 28?!!

This was a damaging loss. In a few minutes the two conceded goals and the McGinn straight red made me think at this point I would take a 2 nil loss because this could get worse. And it did.

Yeah, I like McGinn as a player but it’s been many many years since that tackle would not be considered a straight red. Udogie flying past him up the pitch, McGinn nowhere near the ball, full speed impact using his body from the side AND thrusting his knee right into the opponents knee. Thank goodness Udogie didn’t have his right leg planted at impact or else I could be the end of a promising career. I’ve seen that very thing first hand.

Need to see a reaction against Ajax. I'm worried as feel we'll concede, so need to score at least two. Tbh that has to be our priority now as can see us losing maybe 5 of our last league games starting at West Ham. Oh well onwards and upwards. UTV 💜

How can you run a fan channel and not stay till the end of the game? You need to show you support your team through the thin as well as the thick. As a Spurs fan I thought it was no coincidence that that awesome team smashing everyone that we were for the first ten games, this is the first time since then we've got to play that first 11. Makes me feel without all the horrendous injuries this season we could easily still be in this title race. I've always had a soft spot for Villa. The Peter Withe, Gary Shaw, etc team in 1981 was the first team I liked as a kid before I settled on Spurs. Let's hope there are 5 Champions League places. 😊

I think running a fan channel is about being authentic. I’m not going to sit about for an extra 10 minutes watching my team getting battered just because I run a fan channel.

Unfortunately, I totally agree with your post match analysis. ‘Self-destruct’ was the phrase I used for the 2nd half and to simply give up at the end was unacceptable, especially with goal difference effectively counting as double. I agree with your summary Max it was an opportunity lost. Can't see what Zaniola adds to the squad. Watkins appeared to be shot shy in this match !! and Bailey had one of those on the beach matches !! Maginn was trying to inspire his teammates into action but he defo saw the red mist which lets the team down for the next three league matches. As captain he must keep himself under control. Mustn't forget we are missing Kamara, Ramsey and of course Buendia and Mings. Up to the squad to pull together now for the run in. About time Diaby showed us what we paid £50m for.

Utter rubbish....you could see how leggy we were. It wasn't a lack of effort.

Hard watch that game was and even I turned it off after about 80mins . I will say maybe it gives the manager a look into who’s going to have the fight going forward and wants the champions league bad enough.! We have to improve a lot from this game but I’m sure they will and Villa can still do this . Just typically the hard way ! UTV

Not easy to pick ourselves up after that performance. We’ve rarely been at our best since the Man City win have we. Apart from bits and pieces against Forest and Luton. Lots of reasons for that. But we are looking tired. 5th and a Euro Trophy is best we can hope for now. But we need to up our game for Europe. I’d have taken that before the season started.

I think the pre-match quote by John Mcginn needs to be used to motivate the team not to let such a defeat happen again this season for the sake of the captain and all the fans.

Mcginn was used wrongly by emery, he played him way to deep instead up playing more up front to cause the opposition to panick and defend, however he clearly lost his head and rightfully got sent off

Unfortunately, whenever Villa have had the chance to excel they've blown it. The loss at The City Ground, blowing a 2-0 lead at OT, dominating United at VP only to lose when a win would have completely put them out the CL race (although I doubt they''ll make it anyway) & now a chance to put Spurs' CL hopes in major doubt with home advantage yet losing again. What's worrying is this was supposed to be a close game...

Agree that the team performance was bad but i can't agree that all the players were equally to blame. Cash had a good game, Tielemans was the link at which the team broke. We did have a good spell in the first half where I thought that Emery's plan had begun to work, but the players just couldnt put the chances away or be sharp. But out of possession Spurs were miles better and Tielemans lost it or didn't regain or wasnt even in a position to.

Shocking performance today, terrible home game yet again..how many times are we going to bottle it against the top five teams not happy at all..

Diaby has been awful for the past 4 or 5 months. A complete waste of over 50 mil.

Five at the back at home, nothing coming down either flank far to much respect to spurs. We needed to get at them, not worry about defending we are at home. Bailey looked knackered today no threat..

Im a spurs fan couldnt believe the score but it aint over yet we still have to play the top 3 and Newcastle and our bogey side chelsea so im still worried

John McGinn is a super player , but he lost his head for a moment there, and now Villa are without him for three crucial games. Couldn't understand why Emery changed tactics for the match either, home game, should have played their way. They didn't and reacted to what the expected Spurs to do. And we know what Spurs do.

To be honest mate this type of result has been coming and I think villa have some sort of issue with Lenglet because whenever he is in the team this happens: we conceded 2 goals against (bottom-table) teams (Forest, Luton and Burnley) We conceded 3 goals against (Mid-table teams) Newcastle and Chelsea and today we conceded 4 goals against spurs. The pattern of goals that villa are conceding is clear and Unai Emery needs to sort this defence out especially when it comes to defending against set pieces otherwise we are not going to get top 4 that’s for sure.

I think you’re on to something. There was a reason why Postecoglu dismissed any thought of signing Lenglet on for another season at Spurs. Ange needs CBs with enough pace and defensive ability in recovery to play his high defensive line. While comfortable on the ball and reasonably decent when setting up in a defensive back three system, Lenglet simply can’t perform well in Ange’s high line/progressive and direct passing style. Unai Emery also plays a relatively high line normally no? I have a soft spot for Villa and watch them play occasionally. Lenglet is just not suited to your football. Agree with your observation 100%.
