Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto - Portugal 4K Travel Channel

A bright afternoon invites us to visit Vila Nova de Gaia, the town on the opposite bank of the Douro.
We cross the Douro by metro over the Ponte Dom Luís I. It was designed and built by Théophile Seyrig and opened in 1886.
The Ponte Maria Pia, built by Gustave Eiffel, was opened in 1877. It is located approx. 1 km upstream from the Ponte Dom Luís I.
The Ponte Maria Pia was designed by Théophile Seyrig, who studied under Eiffel. This bridge was taken out of service in 1991 as it was only passable on a single track.
Near the metro station are several excellent viewpoints, such as the Miradouro da Ribeira, Miradouro da Serra do Pilar, and the Miradouro do Teleférico. Miradouro do Teleférico is the top station of the Cable car to the Douro waterfront, which we use right away.
The riverside promenade is a popular leisure destination for strolling and offers a range of restaurants and cafés. It is also t he starting point for visiting various wine cellars and museums.
We visit the Pandaria Beira Rio bar, an excellent opportunity for wine tasting with various Porto wines. We were particularly impressed by the original preparation of the roasted chorizo. It is roasted directly on a metal tray on a kitchen chair over an open fire and tastes excellent.
Not far away, at the intersection of R. Dom Alfonso III and Rua Guilherme Gomes Fernandes, is the famous Half Rabbit by Bordalo II, half sculpture and half graffiti.
Just 200 meters away is the entrance to WOW Porto, the World Of Wine, a cultural complex. The history of port wine is told here. The cultural complex houses some museums, starting with the Bridge Collection, named after the WOW founder, whose collection includes drinking vessels from 9000 years of cultural history. Representational, visual, and acoustic impressions are conveyed via corks, textiles, the Porto region, and even chocolate. There are also a large number of restaurants, a wine school, and wine cellar bars.
After all these unique impressions, we once again take in the architecture of Vila Nova de Gaia and the silhouette of Porto in the afternoon and evening sun. We cross the Douro on foot via the Ponte Dom Luís I and climb the stairs to the cathedral, Sé do Porto. At the end of the day, we also enjoy a small fireworks display.
