As the Mongols invaded and occupied several islands claimed by Japan, repeatedly. Only thing that saved Japan from being invaded was the tsunami. Mongols beat samurai like a drum kit. The samurai would try to fight one vs one, the Mongols fought As many as needed to win vs one. Samurai was simply overwhelmed.

The For Honor universe is one of the best ideas yet people find something to complain about, the best Knights, Viking, Samurai and Chinese warriors fighting over resources and land is the simplest way to explain this game

No the Arab royalty used to hire the Vikings to be bodyguards and trading security because no one ever beat them when they were attacked and the guy saying the Samurai had martial arts -- well so did the vikings they have Glima and Stav and were fear around the world for their fighting skills and battlefield tactics, so really the only way the Samurai could win is just superior numbers. Only so many Viking raiders against a whole country.

While its true the germans gave the Romans the beating theyll never forget the Germans had never left their territory to invade the Roman, they fought within territory familiar to them, unlike Vikings who were like medieval sea-borne army invaded countries left, right, centre. I think if continental europe was one central power like theyre under the Roman they would have dealt with the Vikings better

@Stephenson 2-18 First of all, I am talking about the game's lore. And second, sorry to burst your bubble but what you see on anime is not how real life Samurai worked lol. Samurai were specialised in archery but could use other weapons too, like the Naginata and the Kanabo, the Katana was just a back up weapon. However their armour is designed mainly with ranged archery in mind. Vikings however were specialised in meele combat, mostly using an axe and a shield. More successful Vikings could buy a sword and a full set of Chainmail. If Vikings ever were to raid a Samurai Village, I would say the odds are even. If the Samurai has a lot of range he will probably win, but if it's a close meele combat then the Viking would likely win.

Fun historical fact : the Vikings sailed all the way South from Europe , then across Africa , through the Arabian peninsula, and then sail along the shores of India , past the strait of Malacca , then sailed up along China just to reach and plunder Japan

Okay so let's be honest, If this actually went down in history who do y'all think will win. Personally I feel the samurai will win because I whole lifestyle was based on war and fighting. And I feel that technology at this time was much more advanced. And this is not calling Viking A group of pushovers, because as you can tell from history they were by far no pushover

Samurais will definitely dominate the battlefield. Vikings literally are drunk or hang over every time they fight another army and mostly they have a mentality of a one man army. They use brute strength as for samurais, they rely on strategy and terrain.

@@shinshin3800 that's just a popular myth. There's a reason why Vikings were highly prized as mercenaries in the ancient world. Plus, most Viking armor would make the majority of samurai weapons useless.

@@macroxela i don't think that's all that accurate when it comes to weapons. Because I am Native American and when the Vikings came over here. We pushed them out of our territories. We were killed in hand to hand combat and made shields but we didn't have armor like theirs but we also defeated them

The Vikings and the Samurai did not even live in the same period lol. Vikings lived between 800-1100, Samurai between 1200-1900.

Not exactly,in the Heian Era the samurais also exist,the end was after the defeated of Tokugawa clan by Meiji emperor in The Boshin japanese civil war,in 1869.

I would like to see the Vikings vs Native Americans, which I think could've been a much more likely event since Japan would've been much too far away for the Vikings to even consider plundering. Besides, the Native Americans had really formidable warriors in their own right as well, like the Comanches. Certain tribes could've given the Vikings a hell of a fight.

vikings were the first ones in noeth america.they called the natives skraelings.they settled there and fought for a few years,they travelled all the way to present day boston.they eventually left because they kept fighting with the natives

I can see the Samurai winning mainly because of armor. The armor could withstand anything the Viking could throw at it, since it is known to be able to stop bullets from firearms. Overall, I’d give the Samurai 8/10. The Samurai could easily target the legs of the Viking that weren’t protected well with his 7 foot spear, or penetrate the spots of chainmail that isn’t backed up by gambeson, such as the face or throat.

omg, cuirass what could stop the bullet...was made in europe and brought to undeveloped japan by european merchants including the firearms itself..., samurai armor was inferior on every level to european knights and way behind, their top armor was at the time when europe started marching into battle in a wool coat...

​@@sleepete12 no it was not, samurai armor can be just as protected and plate armor was already developing in Japan prior to contact with the west, guns also did not came from Europeans that story with the Portuguese was made up decades later, firearm showed up earlier and the designs are closer to ones you would find in Southeast Asia so bullet resistant armor was developed in Japan by itself.

@@serrydzzatr4672 Vikings didn’t have much armor, if they were lucky they’d have chain mail and a helmet. Most Vikings were just simple farmers that may have an axe and a shield, only the wealthier end would have real armor

Fun fact: You're supposed to use the tip of the katana to slash, and it couldn't stab very well. In one of the clips the samurai just stabbed through a viking's armor.

usually the handle was shorter than the one that was showed. The katanas themselves we're around 45 inches. It's pretty cool.

They were Taller than that but also the height changes throughout periods just like anywhere else, the Vikings were also not particularly tall, however that doesn't really matter when weapons and armor are involved.
