VIIKINGS MHK V2 Hmong Knife

VIIKINGS MHK-V2 Hmong Knife
viikings.com/collections/tool...
Understanding the MHK-V2 design:
The design and materials of the MHK-V2 is VIIKINGS' modern take on the tried-and-true traditional Hmong knife that has been used for generations as a "jack of all trades" or survival knife in the hills and mountains of Southeast Asia.
Bohler K110 Steel: K110 is chosen for its heavy-duty tool steel properties. Its composition provides the perfect balance of toughness, edge retention, and wear resistance. It also provides ease of sharpening out in the field and require less maintenance due to its resistance to oxidation (rust). Moreover, our heat treating process of precision heat control and triple-tempering optimizes the toughness of the knife while reducing all internal stress.
Thicker than normal 3D handle scales: The thicker handle allows for a more natural grip thus providing more comfort and less strain on your hand during usage over a long period of time - especially when chopping. Your hand won't feel like it needs to apply a full force grip all the time.
Longer than normal handle length: This allows the user to choke up to the guard for fine work around the tip and heel or choke back on the slightly curved handle for optimal chopping power around the belly.
Blade tapering to the tip: This allows for a very balanced big knife. The taper increases its piercing capability while maintaining its chopping ability.

This was a cool blade to work with. Can't go wrong with it, especially if you're bushwhacking in the southern swamps of the US.

Glad to see a modern Hmong knife. My uncle has a Hmong knife that was passed down from my grandpa....pushing $200 years old. I'd like to make a replica of it one day. Thanks for sharing. I love knives lol.

Great casual conversation . In regards to the lanyard up the for arm ,I first saw that back in the 50's dad used that skill all the time arund the camp i was about 8 or 10 have no idea but I do remember asking him if he had learned that in Army basic he said no he was watching some islander in the pacific who worked for the Army as a cook and he was fascinated as to the skill level this guy had with the large Machete and he never for got it. He practice as much as he could remember and it just became part of him and he passed it on to me even mom my uncles as I have passed it on to the boys and grand kids , Happy Trails

I have a traditional one made from laos. Been trying to wreck it so I can have a reason to justify getting this model but it surprisingly held up.😅 I usually bring this style of blade along on all hunting trips in the PNW because I just feel alot safer if my side arm is giving me problems. Which once o dropped my side arm and lost it. I had this cold steel tanto and I'll tell you, I got a little worried traversing the 6 miles back to my truck. Kind of hard thinking about fighting off a mama bear with a 22lr. 😂😂😂

Hand craft depends on what metal they use to forge is mostly too hard and chips on the sharp edges. My dad use to get on to my mom about it when she use it to chop bones cuz they chip the blade. It's both good and bad to it. If it's hard it usually holds its sharpness better and won't go dull as fast when cutting meat but chips easier if it's going up against hard bones
